(13,538 posts)I know a very good lawyer who INSISTED to me that Covid 19 was called that because it was the 19th version of Covid. And that, at that time, "EVERYONE in Israel has been infected even though they have high vax rates!"
I sat there, wrote on a piece of paper that I'd donate $500 to her favorite charity if she could show me ANY actual proof of either by the end of the day & signed it. She was SO excited.
To her credit, she DID call me at the end of the day & admitted that she "got mixed up on the actual numbers". Then she followed with a lot of "but"s
And I told her to use this as proof that she needs to get better sources of info

(42,289 posts)week. I remember him spewing right wing garbage in the break room years ago. Both of us are retired now and one of the first things to come out of his mouth was how bad Joe Biden's economy is and how he can't afford to go anywhere. I knew that was bullshit because his pension wasn't done away with like the hourly workers. I said I'm sorry to hear that, you should have saved your money and invested it. Have you thought about buying an electric car? He said had to go, lol.

(39,086 posts)standard of living has been severely affected from inflation. When I retired in 2010 I had a fixed $1900 per
month pension check. Today after inflation that has lost the buying power of $542 a month that is $6500
a year. With the COLA SS has at least kept up. I have had to cut back, I have stopped taking my winter
vacation to Florida partially because of that and car prices the way they are now I suppose I won't be buying
any new cars soon. A recession hurts some people that lose their jobs but inflation hurts everyone.

(3,192 posts)If it were possible to take the best of Johnson and the best of Nixon, you'd have the best of presidents and a decent human being.
Johnson was a lot smarter than people (and the media) thought he was. Nixon wa not nearly as smart as he thought he was.
But LBJ died in Vietnam and Tricky Dicky committed political suicide. Free LBJ from the glue-pot of Vietnam, and place Nixon under the influence of an advisor better equipped with a moral soul than scabrous Henry Kissinger, and they both may have earned a shot at an updated Mt. Rushmore.

(3,893 posts)He was the manager of a small landscaping company of about 8 employees. He once told me he had so much business he needed to hire more people, but couldn't "because of all the regulations". When I asked him specifically what regulations were keeping him from hiring he couldn't even name one. He just had it in his head that there too many regulations keeping him from expanding his business.

(3,893 posts)I hadn't thought of that. He was just the manager and not the owner. There may have been some things he wasn't supposed to talk about.
I was just taking it from the standpoint that he was the type who always complained about the government keeping him down, even though he always did well and made plenty of money.

Just another ingredient in the FUD cocktail that keeps them drunk with anger and anxiety. Pure balderdash!

Right wingers are so hilarious. They spout that libertarian crap but can't articulate how it supposedly affects them.

(67,111 posts)and Fux Noise and/or NoozMax is on in most of them, typically as background noise, pumping lies and hate into them nonstop.
In a few notable cases, I've seen customers sitting wide-eyed and vacant in front of their tv for the several hours that I'm on-site, and they simply absorb the endless stream of propaganda.
It's horrifying to witness. The people are almost always very pleasant to me, but that's likely because they see me, a middle aged white dude in a blue collar job, as a kindred spirit, and I certainly don't engage in matters of politics while I'm working.
But it's clear that they're internalizing the hate and bullshit.

(32,988 posts)They are right on the main highway, right next to each other. I pity their nearby neighbors. One of them has a perpetual garage sale going. I don't understand why there are not zoning laws in town that could deal with their messes.
They have "Pritzker Sucks" signs in their yards also. You have to look though all the junk to see them. The state of their property and the crudeness of their expression says more about them than the signs say about anyone else.

(5,882 posts)Had lunch with a friend recently and she was spewing all the R-wing propaganda. She is a very wealthy business owner & highly educated + brilliant.
So, I asked her where she gets her news-
the answer came back, NewsMax.
I asked, just NewsMax???
And, I said, Well theres the problem!
She sheepishly admitted that maybe pshe should read other sources.
