(33,424 posts)The Speaker of the Illinois House, Mike Madigan, a Democrat, was indicted for bribery and other charges in March, 2022. His trial is scheduled for May, 2024. If it is not delayed some more. That is over two years.

(4,616 posts)absolutely do. All the time. Hell, it can take 2 years just to get a divorce. Why some think criminal cases are investigated, indicted, charged and tried within a matter of months or a year is beyond me. Tells me not many actually know how their own judicial system works.

(36,931 posts)That is a fact. And most people would not be allowed to do that.
He is getting special treatment from day one due to his prior occupancy of the WH. The delay of his indictments. The begging for docs back for a year and a half.
It is not the same justice system for all.
$$ does the talking and deciding and delaying.

(8,252 posts)These same people adamantly oppose police reform. Although numbers dont lie about how disproportionately black and brown people are stopped, arrested, maimed or killed by police. They dont want to acknowledge that 2 tier justice system.

(23,715 posts)Has gotten more due process than this butthead. The prosecutors has walked on eggshells for everything. They have answered every stupid motion. Every blatant stall tactic. Its been nuts. Anyone else that had boxes full of classified documents would have had our doors kicked down and been hogtied and hauled off to jail the day they got the warrant.

But I sincerely think that deep down, the American electorate ('for the most part' for the literal reader) really does want someone with integrity and wisdom more than we do a mean-spirited clown. And I hold onto that as a cold-comfort.

Is his behavior abhorrent, dangerous, and possibly illegal--YES.
But in no way, shape or form can any prosecutor anywhere do ANYTHING that puts his conviction in jeopardy.

The thoroughness of DOJ and others. I wish they would spend more time speaking about his threats to others - the way other peoples lives have been dislocated by his goons.

This is the USA and we have Constitutional rights. Even guilty assholes (I'm not a court of law, just of public opinion) have rights.

And as offensive as he was back then, he's gotten progressively worse - and yet he's managed to attract a nationwide "following!" I really, really don't get it...
