Felony indictments help you get reelected!
Who fucking knew?
Why is CNN aiding and abetting this lunatic?

That should be enough to ban CNN as a source on DU.

(13,006 posts)If seen one way, we're looking at his back as he walks toward the flag with his head up (more consistent with your "american hero" interpretation), but seen another way, we're looking at his front, as he walks away from the flag with his head down, looking bruised and battered, defeated.

(79,052 posts)We are in for a tough contest in 2024. Anyone who thinks otherwise is unrealistic. I'm not a fan of CNN, but this is accurate.
However, a well-prepared Democratic Party can make a tough fight look easy to an objective outsider. That can only be accomplished by disciplined preparation. And that requires understanding the nature of the struggle ahead.

(51,308 posts)The indictments DID result in a favorable bump for him.
Of course CNN should report it because it IS news.
People sticking their heads in the sand will pull them out one day and find him back where we don't want him if they don't pay attention.

It was not ok when TFG broke every presidential norm ever
It was not ok when TFG cosied up to every dictator in the world, called them his friends
It was not ok when He was justifiably twice impeached
It was not ok when he made Nixon looked like a jaywalker with his crimes against our national security
If not for his name/money he is a 6 time bankrupt criminal who is the kind of person you would never let in your house let alone vote for......WTF

(82,383 posts)and his being able to beat Biden in conjecture and opinion - it may be true his legal troubles don't lose him supporters, if they have a poll to say that.
But saying his chances of beating Biden are better than ever over that is not really news but just a wondering (hoping for a horse race) and speculation designed to keep the horse race going.

(23,880 posts)That this one was picked as the most important and presented in terms that favor the failed ex-president shows a tremendous amount of favoritism. CNN is as much "news" as fux.

(58,785 posts)this giant news is also virtually the only real electoral news. President Biden's candidacy isn't.
That little crowd of miniature clown candidates scurrying around tRump's feet as they try to get noticed don't count, now anyway. Someone pointed out that DeSantis, far behind, is being dragged along BY tRump to serve as the party's (and media's!!!) designated "loser."

(13,006 posts)It says "analysis" in bold red letters at the lower left of the image. It's not news per se. And that's fine, news providers should offer analysis as well. But they did make a choice, at this moment, to lead the "breaking news" page, not with news, but with analysis. I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing to do, but it is at least a debatable point.

(82,849 posts)Oh, so we're prognosticating on the basis of feelings. Well, I know that the former guy lost the popular vote by 2.8 million ballots in 2016 and by 7.1 million in 2020. But for CNN, it feels like he's more competitive. Like CNN feels that somewhere in those two crunching losses, a significant portion of the electorate is suddenly saying, "You know, I really thought Trump was an unmitigated disaster as a president. All his self-dealing and nepotism and using public funds for private gains and all the excess Covid deaths because he thought he was smarter than career public health officials. But now? Heck, all his legal problems can't possibly be a true reflection of who he is; nobody could be that crooked. Imma vote for Trump in 2024."

(71,542 posts)20 was surprising in that only three presidents since Roosevelt have lost their second election...The first was of course Hoover, the second was Jimmy Carter, and the third was George HW Bush. I do not count Gerald Ford as he was never elected...not even as vice president.
Two, the idea that they are taking African American vote and Hispanic vote is an out-and-out misrepresentation...Both groups vote overwhelmingly for the Democrats. And the GOP has yet to offer them anything of value...quite the opposite actually.
Three, Roe is going to kill the GOP chances...what little they have this election. The GOP has alienated women voters and it will bite them in the derriere. And the loyal Trump voters are a small amount of the electorate and can't win without other voters joining them...both independents amd some Democrats. It won't happen. Trump has basically cost the GOP elections since 16. I think CNN knows this. This is Fox-lite CNN's way of helping Trump and is certainly not news. It is opinion at best, but since they really do know better, I consider it more CNN lies.
muriel_volestrangler
(106,211 posts)President Biden has a slight edge, but very small (the most recent poll there has them tied). Trump's share looks pretty much as good as it's been since 2021. Your reasons for optimism are just that - things that may get our numbers better, some time in the future.
I can't find the article behind the headline that the OP hates so much - did it actually talk about "the idea that they are taking African American vote and Hispanic vote"? Or was that the deleted post you replied to?

I don't think I'm the one who needs a deep breath here. Look at how many times you've posted in this thread, and the hyperbole you're using.

(58,785 posts)Nixon was reelected in a 49-STATE SWEEP in the middle of investigation for his crimes. Because of the serious criminal investigation. Even some Democrats "rallied" in disapproval of the "attack" on an elected president.
We knew much the same dynamic would strengthen RW support for tRump initially.
BUT IT HAS TO BE DONE. AND WE'RE THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE TO DO IT.
(CNN's headline is simple truth. For now.)
Demsrule86
(71,542 posts)after the election. And Nixon was not indicted...big difference there. Nixon has support among others besides his base...and the investigation was not in full swing until after the election.
The wiretaps failed to work properly, however, so on June 17 a group of five burglars returned to the Watergate building. As the prowlers were preparing to break into the office with a new microphone, a security guard noticed someone had taped over several of the buildings door locks. The guard called the police, who arrived just in time to catch them red-handed.
It was not immediately clear that the burglars were connected to the president, though suspicions were raised when detectives found copies of the reelection committees White House phone number among the burglars belongings.
In August, Nixon gave a speech in which he swore that his White House staff was not involved in the break-in. Most voters believed him, and in November 1972 the president was reelected in a landslide victory.

(58,785 posts)for his crimes would rally big support to him. Similar to Nixon, whose approval among Republicans was very low before Watergate blew up but then soared. Our people are neither stupid nor ignorant of history. Our own and that of other nations that have fallen, or refused to.
The second point is: WE HAVE TO DO IT. So we are.
A third point is: It's the media's job to report frightening truths. And this one's happening -- as we expected.
