Is to ensure he is the nominee (you know who) & they have a shot at being in his cabinet? I really wonder how serious they are about becoming president themselves. In other words, they are running to support TFG.

(65,711 posts)most know they don't have a snowballs chance in hell. but on the chance that the orange asshole gets the nomination, they want to then suck up to him for a place in his cabinet if he's reelected. they are trying to show the orange asshole that they can be "tough" too.
..let me see, when you run for office, do people give you money?.....
Javaman
(65,711 posts)if you are talking about pac money, that money from the failed candidates will be folded into the orange assholes chest when the failed candidate throws his support to him.

(58,785 posts)Whether they're old discards just trying to keep their brand recognizable and sell a book or keep their speaking fees from dropping out of sight, or trying to position for future office. Just looked, 124 Republicans filed in 2020.
The press cut most of them from all but local coverage of course, but they could still use it for their own PR. Some get enough attention and donations to be able to pretend to national "viability" until more serious candidates begin officially campaigning and the press has the primaries to cover, then drop out. As planned.

(85,150 posts)And theres a chance you will win. Thats why weve seen so many candidates since 2004.
I think this time around, Tim Scott has a good chance of winning, especially if republicans care about electability. He can raise money. Trump will likely be in legal trouble and DeSantis is an unelectable zealot with personality issues.
