Jack Smith seeks protective order citing Trump's threat on Truth Social

https://www.rawstory.com/jack-smith-seeks-protective-order-trump/

Special Counsel Jack Smith on Friday reportedly moved for a protective order in the criminal case brought against Trump over the former president's efforts to overturn the 2020 election, referencing a social media threat Trump posted earlier the same day.

Trump earlier Friday issued a threat that he will be "coming after" anyone who "goes after" him.

"IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU!" Trump posted without any further context on his own Truth Social platform.

That spurred action from the prosecution, according to Kyle Cheney, the senior legal affairs reporter for Politico.

This is apparently all part of his process of preparing to comply...

right after he gets back into power and has everyone responsible executed, so he doesn't need to comply any more.

And that avatar graphic! Yeeech! Years ago before becoming inured to such things, I used to think it was pretty awful to have the American flag emblazoned on briefs, but this is much worse.

During the discovery process, Smith will release some information to Trump's attorneys regarding details of the case that the prosecution is bringing against Trump. That is normal procedure. The lawyers for the defendant are entitled to that information in order to prepare a defense.

But, Trump's most recent threat implies that when he gets that information, he will go after people who provided it. That would include the grand jury that voted for indictment and the witnesses who testified to the grand jury. Considering how Trump operates, he would not personally touch any of those people, but he would either get one of his goons to threaten them further, in secret, or would publicize the info in a way designed to get some crazy MAGA to go after those people with a gun.

In other words, Trump is now intimidating witnesses and jury members that he will get revenge on them for aiding the prosecution. It is a very real and dangerous threat because, during discovery, Trump could learn which witnesses have the most damaging testimomy and target them. He is creating fear in them in the hope that they will recant their testimony or have a memory loss during the trial.

and feed his narrative of being a political victim.

I think that a better option is to make him put up bail, in cash or property. Then if he continues to violate bail terms, he forfeits the cash or property.

Since his funds and the funds of the Republican party are dwindling, the threat of losing money or valuable property would hit him where it hurts.

I don't think this could be done legally, but I would love to see each of his properties put up for bail and then seize one each time he violates bail.

…he will always be a political victim to his base, locked up or not. The rest of the sane world is royally fed up at this point and is desperate for some semblance of justice. While confiscating his assets (which are probably underwater) would certainly devastate Trump, it’s just not enough at this point. The man needs to be locked up, or at least put in isolation without access to social or any other media. He’s getting worse, and will only get worser (as he might say), until he calls for full blown civil war. The rest of the country is losing our civil rights while we pander to his.

post messages for him. Complete isolation from outside contacts.

He is deliberately challenging the judge and the courts. He knows that if they put him in jail, it will enhance his narrative that he is a political victim. He would say that imprisoning him denied him his right to campaign travel.

So he will continue to threaten and intimidate people.

Maybe the consequences should be monetary. Make him put up bail money. If he does not have cash for it, make him use one of his properties. Then if he violates the conditions of his bail by continuing to threaten people, he forfeits the cash or property.

At his arraignment, the judge told "Mr. Trump" to not threaten, harass, or otherwise screw with witnesses or anyone else.

True to form, Trump left the courtroom and immediately started bitching and moaning, then, he attacked Smith, judges, Biden, DOJ, . . . .

Smith has now asked for a protective order telling Trump and his lawyers to not reveal the names and testimony of any grand jury witnesses. Remember: Grand jury proceedings are secret, but, now that Trump has been charged, grand jury testimony must be turned over to him and his lawyers.

Judge likely will issue such an order, basically a gag order telling Trump and his people to STFD and STFU.

If Trump continues to run off at the mouth -- and what's the chance of that NOT happening -- judge can charge him with violating a court order and she can order an immediate trial on that charge; the trial is in front of this judge, no jury, the judge listens to both sides' arguments then she rules.

Goddam but I hope Trump continues to spew his venom and the judge does something such as slapping his ass in DC jail until his trial. At some point we need to stop this "former President is untouchable" bullshit. NO former president would have acted like this and I doubt that any future president would.

TFG Lawyer: Your honor, the First Amendment allows... CUT OFF

Judge: I don't want to hear it. You were warned. You are in contempt. Bailiff, take the defendant into custody. Mr Trump, you will remain incarcerated to ensure you do not interfere with your right to a fair trial. Take him away.

This POS has gotten away with this kind of shit all his life. He has done it so often he actually believes he is someone "special" and somehow above the rest of us. Fuck that. Throw his ass in Jail. He won't become a martyr, he won't suddenly be deluged with cash. He will sit there staring at 3 plain walls, a wall of bars, a prison toilet, and a pee stained mattress to sleep on.
