Barr obliterates Trumps defense: He knew well that he had lost the election

But recently, other GOP contenders flip:
Mike Pence (Aug 4, 2023 report) "The American people deserve to know that President Trump and his advisers didn't just ask me to pause. They asked me to reject votes, return votes, essentially to overturn the election"
""While I made my case to what I understood my Constitution to require, the president ultimately continued to demand that I choose him over the Constitution."
"What the president maintained that day, and frankly, has said over and over again over the last two and a half years, is completely false," he added. "And it's contrary to what our Constitution and the laws of this country provide."
Todays indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States.

Hurd: Let me be crystal clear: Trumps presidential bid is driven by an attempt to stay out of prison and scam his supporters into footing his legal bills. Furthermore, his denial of the 2020 election results and actions on Jan. 6 show hes unfit for office.

Ramaswamy & Scott have not flipped ... yet.
This is a time they can have 'fun' with the rhetoric "weaponizing the government".
But when the cases start, the prosecution goes first. There will be weeks of facts, testimony (by many Republicans), audio, video, etc and the weaponizing claims become more hollow against the proven facts. We know there is little defense to come. Trump funding will fall off further.
Before that, we'll have more "Eu Tu Brute" moments.
As people find out, his funding will drop off while the GOP scramble to find someone that might help restore the Oval Office to their control.
Some MAGA will still donate when he's in jail. So it is not going to completely stop.

(22,177 posts)There he can have his secret service detail, eat his meals in silence and have supervised visitation every 2 weeks. Actually locking him up isn't as impossible as many believe.
Why he even needs a SS detail is beyond me. He's not a security threat anymore. Everything he knew and saw, every secret document he absconded with is now common knowledge among our adversaries.

The judge could give Trump a choice, publicly apologize for his threats or go to jail, then it would be his choice, except Trump never apologizes.

(7,794 posts)Would that be enough that he could paralyze the justice system into compliance with his bluster? He should be behind bars already. It's the proper course for such behavior and I'm pretty sure there would be a universal hue and cry for such if he were a Democrat.
