Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMy prediction for tomorrow - judge, in addition to protective order, issues gag order sua sponte
Trump and his lawyer, by online posts, speeches and TV appearances, have made it clear that they intend to poison the jury pool, rile up supporters, attack witnesses, the prosecutor, the courts, attempt to build public support for a change of venue, all things that appear to be building up to what would amount to a runaway trains. So I think the judge will, on her own motion (sua sponte), issue a gag order, citing the antics since Friday as the reasons for it. That also takes the heat off Jack Smith as a "persecutor". Trump may think a gag order by the judge would be evidence of a bias against him laying the groundwork for her recusal or removal as trial judge, but gag orders are common and not evidence of anything except an attempt by the trial judge to assure a fair trial, so that won't work.

If he does (ANYBODY here want to bet that there's NO CHANCE that he won't blow another gasket?) - the Judge can slam his fat A$$ from DC to MERDE-A-LARDO and back 20 times, including:
*Gag order
*Ankle bracelet (boy, that'll cost him a few strokes!)
*In-house arrest
*GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL - DO NOT PASS GO - BUT GRIFT FOR $20 MILLION!
Let's hope..........
Ms. Toad
(38,642 posts)Tomorrow is purely paper. Trump has a document due. Smith has nothing due. There is no hearing set for tomorrow; no presentations by lawyers.
Can the judge act on new threats? Sure, but she is unlikely to without holding a hearing (in the future), warning him about the consequences of his continued behavior, slapping him a bit for continuing to act like a fool - and warning again about the consequences, and then imposing sanctions for continued bad behavior.
None of that will happen tomorrow - aside from the possibilty that she will order a hearing (a few days from now) to issue a stern ultimatum.

(7,604 posts)He'll squeeze every penny out of his worshippers no matter the crime, the lies, the grifting in general. If going to the slammer will create an avalanche of donations, he'll sit in the slammer. That's what he's doing. And no one seems to get it. Trump doesn't care about the law. He cares about the dollar, and only the dollar.
Trump is already being sued for defrauding the public for 250 million for his J6 gambit. If that lawsuit is successful, then ALL of his donations, based upon lies, are also on the table.

(26,017 posts)and since he has violated the terms of his release on his own recognizance, I would like to see the judge require that Trump post a large cash sum as bail assurance that he will not violate the terms of release again. If not a cash sum, then a property of equal monetary value. When he violates the bail terms, he forfeits the money or property.
Bail is used as assurance that the defendant will show up in court, especially if he is a flight risk. But since Trump is committing more crimes while on release without bail (threatening witnesses and juries is a crime), then it seems to me that material bail in a large amount is warranted, considering the amount of damage that he is doing.
He would probably use the cost of the bail for more grifting, but would also feel the hurt if he has to forfeit the bail money. That's why I would prefer to see him required to put one of his properties up for bail, like Mar a Lago, Bedminster, or Trump Hotel. Something of personal value to him as well as of material value.
It has to be something that Trump values enough to feel the hurt if he loses it.

(967 posts)According to Politico, Trump has spent millions more than hes raised in 2023; Politico says that even the small-money rubes Trump fleeces online and during his carnival stops town to town, are giving less money and each subsequent indictment brings in less small donor enthusiasm. Financially, and therefore in terms of election chances, real damage is being done, and the fact that Trump is publicly complaining about something strategists and consultants would definitely prefer he keep internally, and that any rational candidate would shows its hurting them bad.
That alone is already a massive benefit of the criminal investigations and prosecutions of Trump, family and associates. Any time these assholes have to spend time and money defending themselves, its less time and money they have to inflict damage on our Republic.

I went back to the AMTRAK manager and she took us back to that 'Club' and led us through and assisted us in getting her into a stall.
SHE WAS WONDERFUL!
When we were done and leaving, I stopped at the Club entry and told the 'denying' agent:
"I will never wish 'ill' on anybody, but I sincerely hope nobody in your family ever suffers a disability and has to put up with YOU!"
He never looked up as we 'rolled' away.
I DID contact AMTRAK headquarters and gave them the record of our experience and included the name of the manager that assisted us. Because of 'legal' matters, AMTRAK told us that 'actions' were taken but could not tell us more - but they sent a $500 voucher to help 'ease the pain' of the experience.
I DO wonder if that other 'agent' ever realized how cruel and unfeeling he was..........

(4,741 posts)That's the bad news.
The good news is that the people on our side who can do something about it seem to be far more competent than the people on his.
Jack Smith will file motions that he knows a judge will rule on in his favor, but he has to wait for this idiot to do the stupid things before he can file those motions.
This judge will be extra-careful to make sure she nails him for things like this in a way that doesn't get overturned on appeal. But I also have a feeling her patience and tolerance for his antics will wear thin sooner rather than later. Her leash has only so much slack in it. When she does it right, we'll get something we've longed for, all these years:
No more whining about this case. One less thing to hear from him = a most excellent thing.
I get it that we all want an end to this long national nightmare, but the people on our side who can do something about that have to work within laws, rules and processes that he never feels constrained by. If they don't follow those rules to the letter, we'll be stuck with the wanker until he finally croaks.
Is that what any of us wants?

(4,741 posts)I've never understood the Yank obsession with ketchup.
I like it only on a few fried veggies. It's my husband who likes it on burgers and hot dogs, too. The only other thing we use it for, really, is meat loaf, or maybe as a base for a homemade BBQ sauce.
We use ketchup so little that we've had bottles expire with a quarter or more still inside. After the last incident of that, I started keeping an eye on the date, so that I can slot something like meat loaf or maybe some sweet potato fries into our menu, to avoid having any of it go to waste.

They can differ wildly on interpretation of everything else, but the one thing all judges share is zero tolerance for contempt of court. A judge would have to do something heinous to get a contempt ruling overturned.

At some point, he's going to have to get the same penalty any of us would get for contempt of court. He'll have to be locked up, at least temporarily. She's got to be planning exactly how that would be executed. Anything less would be proof that he doesn't need to listen to her at all.
So, get him to court to discuss the latest offense and then not let him leave. Deal with the aftermath. Possibly release him on his promise to stop violating it. He violates it again, Rinse, repeat. Right up until the actual trial.
Where he'll be found guilty, because he is.
wnylib
(26,017 posts)Forget fines. They are useless, unless the fine is substantial and is charged for EACH time he violates the terms of release. Each Truth Social post that threatens people, insinuates something or someone, or undermines the authority of the court and its officers should be fined. Same with each statement to that effect at rallies or to the media.
He would rack up millions in fines each week. No way could he get that much in donations to compensate.

Six hours after a New York judge warned former President Trump he could be penalized for any remarks that endangered others, Trump stepped to a microphone in Florida and practically dared the judge to do just that.
"I have a Trump-hating judge," Trump said in a barrage of insults aimed at Judge Juan Merchan, the judge's family, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and more.
Wish they could issue a gag-and-truss order. Might suit "leading Republican presidential candidate" tRump's purposes even better than just a gag, but for sure it would suit mine.
