Prior to filming our first documentary on cannabis a decade ago, I was highly skeptical about its use as a medicine. I had even written a story for Time magazine a few years earlier to make the case that the evidence simply wasnt there.
But, as so often happens when we start to dig into things, a different picture started to emerge. I traveled the world, visited tiny labs and, most important, spent time with patients even young children who changed my mind. I came to the realization that in some cases, not only did cannabis provide relief, it was the only thing that did so.
Yes, there are real risks, as with most things. And of course, its not a panacea. Nothing is.
While it is not something that will work for everyone, that should not mean it isnt available to anyone.

(51,308 posts)Too many changes in opinion, advice, etc.
Wasn't it Sanjay who did the tutorial on how to disinfect your groceries? Lol, wear gloves, leave groceries outside, bring them in after a few hours, spray everything down, change packaging for some products, and on and on.
So glad I never did any of that.

(9,269 posts)Ok, so you're scared little children of legalizing it, just DECRIMINALIZE it and take it off of Schedule 1.
This is so frustrating. Half the states have legalized it but they still can't even straighten out the banking snafu.

(32,746 posts)It was really Obama who got the ball rolling by stating that he would not enforce federal law against states with medical dispensaries. I think Jeff Sessions wanted to reverse that but he was powerless to do anything

(15,894 posts)The world did not end.
Kids aren't using it at any higher rates than they were prior to legalization; usage may even be down among teens.
Alcohol and prescription drug abuse remain the biggest health issues we face.
And people who find a lot of medicinal or recreational value from it no longer have huge legal bills and ruined careers over its use.

(37,109 posts)They're just down the road & shipping is practically overnight, but I've tried other brands & Nuleaf is the one I settled on. We use the pet variety for the dog. She's about 50 pounds & we give her 3 drops on half a fig newton. It takes about 20-25 minutes to kick in. About the time I think, "This stuff doesn't work," she's usually relaxed considerably.
Trazodone is so much harder for her to recover from we will even give her anticipatory CBD, like on July 4th, before the fireworks even begin, so she's in a relaxed state beforehand. We've dosed her up to three times a day. Not often, but around the 4th is always a challenge & recently we've had a ton of severe weather.

I see they have some new pet products, too. We've only used the oil. We are never without it! Good luck!

(51,308 posts)Xanax did nothing for her, Benadryl hypes her up, Dramamine not so good, but Melatonin has helped a bit...like you say, with a wee bit of "pregame".
But I'll try this. Thank you!

(66,955 posts)As the laws in place 10 years ago strongly discouraged sound, broad scale testing, of course there was insufficient data for him to advocate it.
However, there was too little evidence for him to make the risk assessment he did.
He used the data he wanted to conclude what he wanted. Poor science. If he thought there wasn't enough data, he should have been advocating for letting large scale studies be done. Instead, he just decided "Nope".
Not impressive.
