End of story. Yes this country will go to hell in a hand basket for 4 years and we live with it.
We fought a civil war to end slavery, it tore our country apart but we survived. We fought not one but two world wars that tore our country apart. Guess what we survived. We fought and won medicare, medicaid, the civil rights act, the voting rights act. Guess what? We survived the 60's. Hell we even survived the Vietnam war. We survived Reaganomics!
Yes toto if it were to happen we will survive the atrocities of another trump presidency.
We are the great experiment, we are resilient.
Just my rant because of some of the shit I've seen posted lately. I'm having flashbacks to RT.

I want him to be their candidate, he's got tons of baggage.

(60,154 posts)1. If either of us gets 270 electoral votes, we win the presidency. It may have slipped under the radar, but that even applies to Joe Biden, who is the last person to actually accomplish it.
2. I doubt that either of us will be the nominee for president of our respective parties next year. He gets more media hype, so Ill get written off quicker, but, then, I was never running in the first place. Give up four weeks in Truro, MA, just to go on the Sunday talk shows during campaign season? I may be crazy, but Im not THAT crazy.

(29,053 posts)"For every disgruntled person out there who felt undone by the system and threatened by the way the country was changing, caught in the bind of stagnant wages or longing for an America of the past, we found someone who had endured decades of discrimination and hardship and yet still felt optimistic about the future and had no desire to go back. In this season of discontent, there were still as many expressions of hope as of fear. On a larger level, there were as many communities enjoying a sense of revival as there were fighting against deterioration and despair."
I like to think of that quote. People who've always had hard lives, past and present, and do something. Live.

(4,982 posts)It wouldnt be four years of Hell, it would be the end of the country, for good and for all. Were dangling on that brink if any Republican wins. Theyre at the two yard line and ready to score and spike the ball.

(17,416 posts)vote to give a loaded gun to a toddler, we just throw up our hands and say; "well, the people have spoken".
And NO! That doesn't make us "just like them", unless you truly believe that there is "no difference" between what the left envisions for our country and what the right envisions for our country.
I guess Donnie Dipshit was right! There really are "very fine people...on BOTH SIDES".
No reason to consider what the sides are fighting for.
If Superman punches Lex Luther, he's "just the same as Lex".

(59,147 posts)For the last fucking time if you don't have the rule of law, you won't have a democracy.
You are advocating ditching the rule of law. I suggest you find another place to hang out because you will be in an exceedingly small minority here.
But then again all I'm seeing is bluster from you, just like so many others we know.

(3,396 posts)If the population decides to go to civil war and it becomes inevitable then yes, of course I will get militant and fight. I would hope everyone would. That is entirely why we have existed the way we have for as long as we have. Because some people stood up and fought for what is right.
What is the alternative? To let them dismantle our democracy, institutions and and method of self governance arguing that Hey they won fair and square so the people they want to hurt just have to deal with it until we can figure out how to win an election that wont be happening?
Look I am not and never will advocate for civil war or any war for that matter but when it comes to it and it is inevitable then yes of course we fight tooth and nail.
William769
(59,147 posts)It would be up to someone to restore it correct? I'm not saying we don't have options. What I am saying is we are not the ones to just throw away the rule of law.
This whole shitstorm started because it was suggested that we do away with the rule of law to stop trump from becomming President again. I can't and won't live with that action and anyone that does believe that can kiss my rainbow colored ass.

(22,663 posts)For believing he had a chance to win- even a good chance.
I don't make the mistake of underestimating an opponent. I didn't then and won't now. I believe his chances of winning are lower this time around but if enough people get overconfident again then it CAN happen.

(22,663 posts)And my wife telling me "That idiot Trump is running for President"
My response was that idiot will be our next President. She asked how, I said it's simple. He will run as the "outsider" coming in to clean up Washington for the average person. The other Republican candidates will assume he has no chance and will tear each other up for him. Once nominated Democrats will assume it was a fluke and underestimate his chances. Unless taken seriously, he will win.
Flash forward to November 2016, she was shaking her head saying you called it.
More than once then I was told a ham sandwich could beat him in an election. I have seen the same statement in 2023.

(2,317 posts)As Biden does at winning the election. If hes eventually convicted it might change, but even then many millions of Americans will continue to support him.

(2,038 posts)The blame will lie squarely at the people who voted him in office. If that is the case, every single voter who put Trump in office needs to be exposed and dealt with accordingly.

So you mean votes should not be private anymore? How will this be done?

(2,038 posts)is to play their game. They forced the hand. We simply have no other options nor choice because everything was tried yet failed. With 3 legitimate stolen elections, we cannot afford another.

(22,663 posts)No longer be private? Everyone must sign their ballot and it will be public information?
The Grand Illuminist
(2,038 posts)With a Trump win and he obtains everything he wanted which would permanently damage our democracy. Would you want to know who voted for him? Voters are the ones who do the hiring, IMO. It sounds dictoral, I get it and you are right that it's not good. But growing number has their back to the wall and will continue to grow until there is a permanent end to the fascist GOP ruling government.

(51,308 posts)How would you know who voted for whom?
As I've posted here before, I have several black neighbors around my little neighborhood...imagine my surprise when shortly after moving in, I found that one fella is a tfg fan. I had to revise my obvious presumption which was based solely on his skin color (and how wrong is THAT?).
My white male neighbor I pegged as a trumper, though we studiously avoided political talk. Eventually I learned he was a solid Dem, despite his good ole boy mannerisms.
Another woman down the block, whom I've met as we corral the neighborhood ferals for "fixing", I was certain was a Dem. An older "hippie" is how I always thought of her. Then I saw her tfg sticker. Sigh. We never discuss politics either, but that one was a blow.
Back in 2015, I was friendly with a younger woman at work, gay, as am I, and when she told me she liked tfg I must have looked dumbfounded. That was a blow too. I lost track of her after I retired, and I can only hope she saw the light.
So other than revealing everyone's votes (surely you don't advocate that?), how would you know who is a tfg voter?

(11,416 posts)Texas and Montana have an additional vote, and Florida 2: those are both likely to go for Trump. California and New York each lost 1: those are likely to go for Biden. I haven't looked at the new distribution carefully enough to come to any conclusion, though.

(791 posts)It will be the end of a free democracy as we know it, it will forever to known that if a candidate doesn't like the results of an election that they can thwart the constitution or raze their supporters for a violent coup. Civil War again in America will mean its end and MILLIONS dead in its aftermath
