(42,036 posts)This is beyond anything acceptable or tolerable.
Every single moment that he remains free to behave in defiance of the court is an assault everything this nation claims to stand for..
Let him spend the next 2 weeks in jail wearing an orange jumpsuit, denied access to his phone, and eating prison food.
He is not above the law!

but I don't think that Trump is seriously worried. Not yet, anyway. He thrives on contentiousness. He is addicted to the adrenalin rush of defying authority and asserting that he accepts no controls whatsoever. It's such a thrill for him that he loves it when anyone tries to reign him in. It gives him another adrenalin high.
He believes that he can beat this. He will never stop believing it until he is convicted, has lost all appeals, and is jailed. At that point, he will have a total collapse. The taller they stand, the harder they fall.
Trump does not have the inner strength of a Mandela or MLK to endure imprisonment with dignity. There is nothing inside him. No commitment to a genuine cause, no belief in anything but his own superiority. When that is gone, he will have nothing.

(4,742 posts)Yes. He is scared shitless.

(26,455 posts)Is it because of the way he trashes the court, witnesses, and prosecution? Or the way he defies the court? The way he talks about Biden and Democrats taking away his free speech and using prosecution as a political weapon against him?
Those are standard Trump tactics. It's how he has always wiggled out of trouble. He thinks that he can do it again by getting the public to lose faith in the system and rebel against it. He believes that he can beat this. He believes that his usual con talk will save the day, as it always has before. He is so full of hatred and contempt that I don't think he has room for fear.
Not yet, anyway.

(61,093 posts)It may be that NOT acting this way may seem to lead to a quick trial with a very real possibility of being convicted. He may see his behavior as intentionally trying to disrupt that process.
Here, he is accusing the judge of being conflicted, when there is, to my knowledge, no apparent conflict. He has no guarantee of getting all right leaning judges. There likely were more grounds for Smith to reject Cannon. Additionally, his idea of first amendment rights ignores that the rights do not preclude consequences if your speech is toxic. This is true speaking of this time and January 6.
Now, he ignores that the judge set conditions for him NOT BEING HELD IN JAIL. He could have abided by the terms, even as he campaigned for President. For him, that would be hard because his current campaign seems to have a huge part of 2020 CT and he always has attacked everyone he perceives not with him.
He obviously thinks he is too important, powerful etc to jail.
gab13by13
(32,761 posts)Trump's #1 goal is to delay, Jack Smith's #1 goal is speed.
Jack Smith will not act on anything that would delay the trial. Trump is going to appeal whatever happens today.
When in heaven's name are people going to understand that Time Matters?
Everything that Trump is doing is to delay the trial until after the election, everything that Jack Smith is doing is to get Trump to trial before the election.

As has been mentioned on DU he is no longer a laughingstock. He is now a serious danger to our country and probably has been for longer than I have seen. When this changed is subjective but just as a marker, lets say J6. I have put him into a different category in my mind as of that date.

(17,802 posts)So it's just bluster. The legal system could care less what he says on social media wrt to recusals or venue. That is handled through motions, and none have been filed.
Tfg is probably trying to get the judge to react to his antics, then they will file a motion blowing it way out of proportion.
It will fail. They will appeal it all the way to scotus, but it won't matter.

(550 posts)Poor, poor Donald. He is so picked on by the mean radical left wingers. He's is so precious, and so innocent, and so abused, while all he wants is to be loved, revered, cherished, admired, respected, and adored by all.
Nasty, scheming criminal, Jack Smith, is out to get him. Evil Nancy Pelosi is, too. Likewise Tanya Chutkin. And all those damn democrats in Congress are conspiring to take away his First Amendment rights.
Has any one - even Jesus Christ himself - ever been so persecuted? My god, how does he manage to deal with all the cruelty inflicted upon him by so many evil people? The man's a saint. May he be restored to his rightful position as god-king of the world. May he live forever, bloviate forever, rule forever! Long live Donald!
(Please realize this is sarcasm. I really don't like the notion of hating any fellow human being, but in Donald's case I am willing to make an exception)
