Minneapolis Star-TribuneThe appearance by Phillips on the CBS program "Face the Nation" came after he confirmed late last month that he has been urged to consider running for president in the 2024 Democratic primary. The news was first broken by Politico.
The CBS interview represented the first public comments Phillips has made since news of a potential presidential run became public. Phillips has called for competition in the primary for months, and made a similar push during his Sunday television appearance.
At this point, Biden is being challenged in the Democratic primary by long-shot candidates author Marianne Williamson and anti-vaccine voice Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

His secretive meeting with funders and "people encouraging him" has multiple flags. Not a good look.

edisdead
(3,396 posts)Probably looking further down the line. He hasnt announced right?
But here we are acting like he has and some are talking shit about him. Which seems even more counterproductive than a person gauging interest and ability to secure backers for a potential run down the road.

(3,396 posts)He said others were urging him. He didnt say he was running.
Mad_Machine76
(24,980 posts)Others may be urging him but he's at least considering it apparently. If I weren't a well-known political figure (which I'm not) and people were telling me to run for President even when I knew it would be a fool's errand, I'd turn them down flat because I'd know that it wasn't happening and that's it not a good idea to primary a sitting President without just cause. He seems at least tantalized by the prospect.

(25,577 posts)judgement.
No I don't want a Republican in that seat, but I also want a solid Democrat, who's not attacking our president, who might not jump ship and become a Republican because he's not getting his way
edisdead
(3,396 posts)I may not like that he is talking about a run, but the fact is that he has been a good rep.

because it gives off all those vibes.
I would like a solid Dem in that position but I am not in that area. His closeness to Amy K suggests to me that he is fairly conservative actually. His actions will have consequences in sewing doubt as well to Biden and even to him.
Poorly done Emma.

(3,396 posts)Amy K is now a conservative democrat? He isnt a solid Dem?
This thread is bananas.

(46,254 posts)that is is our job to hold Democrats' "feet to the fire." Questioning a vague assertion seems appropriate in this instance.

(3,396 posts)And then a reporter said that he didnt specifically say he wasnt running. Where is the story?
I wrote to his campaign this morning. Maybe I will get an answer.
I do think the concept of a primary is dumb at this point UNLESS it is to show Biden beating the field and giving him a forum to show his abilities but I dont want a dog and pony show either.
mcar
(46,254 posts)Why haven't they gone public with their "urging?"
This is the same as what the media does - "Some top Democrats say, blah, blah."
He's the only one making the claim. I do not believe it is true.

(3,396 posts)Do you have any reason to believe otherwise?

(3,396 posts)Nowhere did it say that he said he was considering running.
It stated that he has been urged to run, and that he didnt say he wasnt.
It also states that he has called for competition which I do not agree with but there have been people on this forum that have made those calls not to mention the I like Biden
But hos age posts right here.
Dean is NOT a threat to Biden. At all. But figuring out where you can start to line things up for 2028 or beyond isnt the dumbest thing for him OR our party.
I dont think he should run and until he even says that HE himself is thinking of running , shitting on a dem rep seems pretty stupid to me. So far it has come out that he has been urged by some to run.

(4,741 posts)And urged by whom, exactly?
Anyone here heard about any groundswell for him to be a POTUS candidate?
I mean, if I thought of anyone who might qualify as a groundswell candidate, I'd think Gavin Newsom or Gretchen Whitmer, Eric Swalwell or Jamie Raskin--I see plenty of enthusiasm in Democratic circles for them (well, for a future run in 2028).
But this guy?
