Ron Desantis, the once touted viable Trump alternative within "sane" GOP donor circles, has certifiably crashed and burned.

After a series of blunders ranging from his disastrous Twitter campaign launch, to his unpopular war with Disney, bizarre campaign videos and tragically idiotic pro-slavery comments, the once so-called better option now looks more and more like a cautionary tale.

All of these unforced errors, combined with a retail campaign presence that makes Jeb Bush look like Mick Jagger, are playing out in real time with donors running for the hills and fewer and fewer people attending Desantis campaign events.

Desantis has been struggling in his attempts to define his campaign messaging and lay out specific policy proposals that set him apart from the field. In the MAGA cult era, he could separate himself from the racist and divisive rhetoric of Trump and position himself to pick up never-Trumpers and moderate Republicans who are sick of the chaos.

Instead, the Desantis strategy has been to push hard to the right of Trump as evidenced by his recent bizarre obsession with waging a "war on woke", resulting in an unpopular 6-week abortion ban in Florida, and attacks on the LGBT and POC communities that resulted in a travel advisory against Florida by the NAACP.
