What if Trump doesn't win the nomination?

Every political pundit and pollster is certain criminal defendant Trump has the Republican nomination locked up 6 months before even the first primary.

But voters are often unpredictable. Especially with a field this large. And 6 months is a long time in our ADHD political landscape where voters can't remember what happened in the news an hour ago.

Either way if Trump doesn't win the nomination one thing is certain:

He won't concede and will claim voter fraud and election interference. And he absolutely won't endorse or campaign for the new nominee. Which is where the fun begins.

If Trump isn't the nominee all his criminal and civil trials can proceed at a normal pace. Prosecutors and judges won't have to consider the "political implications" or how court dates might impact the defendant's campaign.

Trump would be nothing more than the Defendant at that point. And he'll be trashing the Republican nominee who could potentially pardon him if they win.

It's an unlikely scenerio but fun to think about. 2024 could be the worst year of the orange dotard's long, corrupt life.

1. There is so much infighting going on

My guess is that the candidate won't be picked by the primaries because of the infighting. Southern states will pick Trump but other states may pick others. The candidate will be selected at the convention and the decision may be affected by indictments/ convictions.
Haha.

Thank you.

I was getting tired of people taking Trump's nomination and victory for granted.

3. I strongly suspect Trump won't be nominated

I know he's the odds on heavy favorite right now. The drip trip of more information comes out about the actual ones he broke, more and more Republicans are just going to see it as being a pointless hail mary, no matter how much they like his ballsiness.

What's more, at this point the most likely replacement for Trump will be Ron DeSantis. I mean, who else are they going to nominate? Tim Scott? Vivek Ramaswamy?
DeSantis, despite struggling to avoid a free fall right now, is the only one who can pick up support from both the nutcase swing and the pro billionaire BJ wing of the Republican party.

They hope the drip and DOJ take Trump down so they don’t have to and then we watch the kids fight over a dead parent’s estate.

Republicans are real cowards.

Trump never had a majority of the vote in 2016, but there were so many candidates that he won without being all that popular. Trump has enough deadenders that it seems really unlikely that someone else wins.

Maybe the spectacle of Trump being subjected to the criminal justice system just like any other dirtbag, instead of playing 'God Emperor', will dampen his appeal a bit. We can hope I guess.

The only people left in the "base," (i.e., voters in the GOP primary,) are MAGA cultists.

If it is Trump, he loses the G.E. but maybe the GOP does OK down ticket.

If it is not Trump, Trump runs 3rd party and spoils the whole ticket, Dems flip seats everywhere.
