This is so horrible. I was here in March and I try to go every year to watch the humpback whales that visit every winter. I stay a few miles away in Napili but I spend a lit of time in Lahaina. I'm heartbroken and so sad for the good people there.

(103,805 posts)All the clips, it's a montage, have people saying it's Lahaina so I would say it is. Can't you watch it? only 5+ minutes.

(39,302 posts)Folks had to jump into the ocean to escape and the Coast Guard had to rescue them. You can see the sign indicating the turn for the Lahaina Bypass before you get to the Cannery and Safeway when you're driving south on Honoapiilani Highway from Kaanapali to Wailuku.

(9,148 posts)Our family has visited that lovely town many times over many decades.
Parts of the Big Island (in the north) have also burned.
My heart goes out to all Hawaiians, and all humans and animals. Our planet is in great, great distress.
