NEW EDIT: I removed the twitter embed because it's confusing my question
here is a twitter user's reply to a tweet by GOP rep James Comer:
While Comer the Clown is spreading conspiracies about Hunter Biden and Biden family finances, he's conveniently refused to file his own financial disclosures.

I went to this page:
https://disclosures-clerk.house.gov/PublicDisclosure/FinancialDisclosure
...and downloaded the financial disclosure 2023 file that was listed. It's a zip file with both text and xml versions. But all these are is a list of the names of the elected members who have filed their financials, the date those forms were submitted and the document number. That's as far as I can search because I don't know where else to look.
Comer's name is not on this list.

(39,167 posts)Is that Financial Disclosure Extension form for Comer legit?
This is what I want to know.
I'm sorry that Comer's tweet is included. I have him blocked on the twitter, actually. Unfortunately that's how replies to tweets render in linked embeds.

(4,624 posts)We all saw how Trump and his children ALL profited HUGELY from his position when he was in the White House! Whoever can figure out how to do it should publish the documents that prove this fact!

(13,480 posts)And since theres no evidence of a crime because the DOJ investigated these allegations and found nothing years ago, how could he even get a warrant? Can members of Congress get a judge to issue warrants? They arent police officers.
This makes no sense.

(8,387 posts)Did we just not go through several years of discussions about the subpoena powers of Congressional Committees or what?
The way this works is that everything a Democratic Congress can do, a Republican Congress can do.
Yes, they subpoenaed, and obtained, banking records of various members of the Biden family.

(8,387 posts)You asked "Is this legit" and the OP has about a dozen various assertions.
What is it you are seeking to determine is "legit" or not?
As a completely unsurprising fact of life, Billy Carter was known for drinking beer, and got paid quite well to lend his name to a brand of beer during Jimmy Carter's presidency, because a few folks thought they could make a buck off of it. Ruth Carter Stapleton would have been an unknown preacher if not for the fact that she was the president's sister, which attracted cash to her various goings-on.
There is not a shred of evidence that Joe Biden ever lifted a finger in his official capacity as a consequence of whatever business other members of his family had been up to, or that he had anything to do with whatever business they were conducting - including with persons who may have thought it worthwhile to curry favor with some member of his extended family.
That the GOP is continuing to beat this dead horse in full view of the festival of corruption involved in the Trump spawn's obvious mixing of the family business with their highly visible roles in the Trump administration, is the most monumentally impressive act of hypocrisy I have ever seen.

(8,387 posts)Long New Year's hangover? It's okay, there's still some year left.
And, by the way, the fact that it is due by 8/13 does not necessarily mean it will be posted on the site by that date.
