I feel sad for you and hope the crisis stops asap. Hadn't realized how bad it was until I took the time to pay attention. Hang in there...it's shocking. I hope Biden has some ideas.

(28,125 posts)Dont have to be in the eye or even the cone of the storm to get winds, flooding, tornadoes that spin off of them. This is heartbreaking for Maui and the pictures are just horrific. Mother Nature is in control of all of us and these climate challenges are not going to be easy to deal with..imo

(21,182 posts)We had in Melbourne Au. what is still called the windy day. Never seen anything like it - not safe to walk because of flying trees, glass etc. The catalyst was a cyclone over Western Australia, 2,000 miles away, that created a dangerous and unpredictable set of weather conditions.

(104,625 posts)My nephew today, he's been really busy this week and I mentioned this to him as he lived there for several years and has close friends there.
He knew nothing about it so I told him to check in with his peeps over there. He was stunned when I told him about it. I hope his peeps are okay.
I wish healing for everyone there, it's a horrible thing to happen.

I feel so bad for them.

(21,182 posts)When my state in Australia has been on fire (and that's been several times since I joined DU), I was always grateful and warmed by the kindness and genuine concern of fellow DUers.
I hope, in some small way I can convey my horror at the Hawaii fires and my hope that loss of property and more importantly life is minimal. For those who don't inhabit a fire-prone area, it's really hard to describe the anxiety, the emotion, the fear, when all is burning around you.
I'm heartbroken about these fires - all wildfires and wish those affected a speedy recovery of their normal lives.
