Well worth the ticket if you get a chance. They do The Lat Waltz front to back.

I have the album, too. Loved The Band. Hard to believe only Garth Hudson is still with us. Where did the time go?

And by all accounts had the fewest vices. Robertson's style of writing using imagery and stories has had a lasting impact on popular music. The Last Waltz was one of the best rock concert movies ever filmed.

Favorite album is tcatnoC from the Underworld of Redboy. Among the gems on that album is one about Leonard Peltier called Sacrifice, and a beautiful love song called Unbound.

It's an amazing story, beginning with him going down to Arkansas as a 16-year-old to play in Ronnie Hawkins' band. He befriends the drummer Levon Helm almost immediately as he gets drawn into the rockabilly culture of the early 1960's. Robertson was already writing songs as a teenager, and he experimented with performing techniques early in his career.

I haven't even gotten to the chapter where he meets Bob Dylan, but there's so much amazing detail in this book. It's a great read for any music fan. I just can't believe he's gone.

R.I.P. Robbie Robertson and thanks for all the great songs!

might be my favorite recorded music of all time.

Not sure why his death is hitting me like a gut punch.

and in a way my consciousness didn't expect.

I don't think anyone around me would have pegged me for being a fan of RR or The Band, though I do have friends that know that "Storyville" is one of my all-time favorite albums. I think when asked here on DU about "deserted island" albums, it's been on my list.

I guess it's just one of those deals where you don't realize what "you've got til it's gone."
