To think Karen was already measuring the White House drapes, convinced that Cheeto would be re-elected - but would die sometime in his second term.

(23,457 posts)deSaster's wife, to me, seems like your garden-variety social climber. Do you get that same 'vibe' for her?
Having lived in Orange County, CA, she reminds me of quite a few unpleasant acquaintances from that time.

(134,034 posts)thought was, to say the least, unflattering. The second was, "what a power-hungry monster."
I am fortunate in not being personally acquainted with any of the social climber types. Unfortunately, there is a group that I call the pretentious posse, who, to my mind, are just as obnoxious.

(23,457 posts)It's long been my contention that the root of all evil isn't money; it's the ego.
Money just supercharges it - as history has shown us again and again.

(9,372 posts)or "greed" - in Latin, "cupiditas." "Radix malorum est cupiditas." I don't remember the Greek and haven't the energy to look it up, but I'm sure it will be a word closer to "greed" than to "money" specifically.
Beau of the Fifth Column refers to money a "power coupons" which find thought-provoking.
My contention coincides with that of M. Scott Peck, who contended that the root of all evil was falsehood. His book "People of the Lie" made a pretty strong case - and that was long before wie had prefessional political delusion. as a norm.

(134,034 posts)have been rather busy, I note.
I have a few things in the fire, but it's slow going. Don does most his work alone or with one or two local collaborators. Mine require a lot of back and forth between Atlanta and wherever it is I happen to be in any given moment.
