The IDF(Israel Defense Forces) has in recent minutes struck over 20 underground rocket launchers belonging to Hamas and Islamic Jihad in an airstrike.
The airstrikes targeted long-range rockets in the possession of terror organizations, such as the fajr-5 and other rockets that are capable of striking Tel Aviv from Gaza.
IDF spokesman Yoav Mordechai said that Gaza is a "forward Iranian base," adding that the latest campaign of air strikes targeted most of the long-range offensive capabilities in the hands of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
He added that columns of smoke were visible around Gaza.

(12,804 posts)Of course those "savages" were Native Americans who had their own culture but they were seen as inconveniently living on lands people, like Custer, thought were theirs for the taking.
Hamas' rockets are basically glorified fireworks. They are in no way as technically sophisticated as the rockets Israel uses to attack Palestinians. Of course, their lack of sophistication may explain why Israel has a hard time stopping them.
If Israel was serious about eliminating this threat they have 2 choices: 1) exterminate the Palestinians (oh the historic irony that would be) or 2) breakup the settlements and return to the peace table to forge a real, fair and just peace so that both the Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side.

(1,353 posts)dare to attempt to protect itself? I mean, 150 lethal missiles raining down on a populated area in a week, killing civilians and threatening the lives of children isn't that big a deal, is it? Any nation in the world would put up with that from what is actually a group of its own citizens. The city I once planned to move to was hit by 3 waves of Gad missiles today so far. This morning, a friend posted on Facebook that the news announcer on her favorite radio station took an hour to get through the morning headlines (something that takes less than 15 minutes) because he was constantly interrupted by the red alert sirens. Just another day in our wonderful, rational world.
Oh, you mean that is not normal? Really? From the way most of the world is reacting, I would think that everyone thinks that this is a normal, acceptable way to exist and the Israelis have no right to complain.

(12,017 posts)just because they lack an effective guidance system doesn't mean they are harmless. you can call them a 'glorified firework' after one lands and explodes killing your friends and/or family members.

(22,144 posts)The Quassam III (current production) which you call "glorified fireworks", carries 22 lbs/352 ounces warhead. By comparisons, the basic M67 hand grenade has 6.5 ounces of explosive fill. It is great for killing everyone in a pillbox or room. It can blow up cars. It has a lethal radius of 5 meters a casualty producing radius of 15 meters and fragments can disperse as far as 230 meters. The rockets are not "glorified fireworks" they are terror weapons. They are unguided and Hamas is not given the time nor does it have forward observers to "walk them in" on targets, which is the reason for the lack of success.
The IDF does not use rockets, it uses missiles. Those are in some what guided to targets and have a much higher probability of hitting what they were aimed at.
This is Gaza, not the West Bank. There are no settlements. Just Hamas...
