But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
engaged in insurrection or rebellion.
hmm. does that sound like any fuckface former president we know?
Snip
holy shit. the Federalist Society. thats huge.
The bottom line is that Donald Trump both engaged in insurrection or rebellion and gave aid or comfort to others engaging in such conduct, within the original meaning of those terms as employed in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
Section 3s disqualification rule may and must be followed applied, honored, obeyed, enforced, carried out by anyone whose job it is to figure out whether someone is legally qualified to office, the authors wrote. That includes election administrators, the article said.
again, holy shit.

It's practically Machiavellian. Pigs must be flying outside.

Also, I wonder how and when they'd invoke that 14th Amendment clause?
The repub national convention would be the perfect place IMO.

(61,033 posts)has gotten all his legislation passed he can dominate the spotlight and have Dems and repubs trying to woo him.
Let him, though. If he switched to Indy it won't be so easy to get reelected in W. VA. And Sinema most likely won't be around to join him in a mini-power block scheme they've been running, as she probably won't get reelected in AZ.
Go ahead, Manchin. Give it a shot. See what how much power a lone indy in the Senate can wield.

(11,227 posts)Compared to desantis he probably is. He was 'elected' by purging Stacy Abrams' voters. The Heritage Foundation, ALEC and other billionaires (they don't want their taxes raised) will spend whatever it takes to keep the federal government divided like it is now.

They like to operate in the dark, like cockroaches, Donnie's outbursts are detrimental to that.
They have the Supreme court that they want. He's got to go.
They are hoping with Donnie gone, all these investigations into the Supremes will subside.

(433 posts)They got what they wanted from him and don't need him anymore, except that Donnie's outbursts actually help distract people from their real motives. This is absolutely not a sign of them trying to be good people.

(3,921 posts)They know Trump has no chance in the general election. But they also know Trump is almost certain to get the nomination.
DeSantis has already put a Federalist society member on the Florida Supreme Court. They want Trump out of the way so that DeSantis can get the nomination.
If Trump wins the nomination it pretty much guarantees that Biden will win. It also is likely to reduce Republican turnout overall as there are significant portions of the party who are done with Trump. That will hurt them greatly in other races for the House, Senate, etc.
The earlier they get rid of Trump the better position they are in. That is their motivation.

(11 posts)A month ago, I wrote to the Connecticut Secretary of State about this 14th Amendment rumor. A robot answered my email. Yesterday, I wrote again to Santasha Pena, but only a software robot replied. Did you notify your state elections official?
"Dear Secretary of State Pena,
My name is Alan Folmsbee. I live in Bristol, Connecticut.
Please keep the insurrectionist, Trump off any ballot.
The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution "is clear that
anyone who takes an oath of office and then engages in
insurrection is forever barred from holding public office
again". No trial is needed to know Trump is a traitor and always
loves Russia in his statements.
In my 71 years, I have seen many poor people go to jail
for no reason. I seldom see rich criminals have justice
delivered. Please show that the Law means something
to you. Keep a known insurrectionist off the ballot. Your inaction
would mean you support and defend insurrectionists.
Do your duty. The mob-boss former president is
calling for murders of state workers. This is too serious
to ignore. Announce your goal publicly, soon:
Choose a goal: protect an insurrectionist or protect democracy.
If email means nothing to you, I can write a letter.
Please do not ignore me again. I can meet with you and the legislature
to discuss the Constitution."

(3,921 posts)DeSantis is a friend of the Federalists. He has put one of them on the Florida Supreme Court already.
They know Trump is a liability at this point. The earlier they get him out of the way the better for them in the upcoming elections.
Do not think for one moment they are doing this because it is the right thing to do. This is a strategic move on their part.

(26,076 posts)any prohibition to Trump being on the ballot. So, no, there will not be a 2/3 majority in the Senate in favor of having Trump on the ballot.
But that assumes that he would actually be removed from the ballots based on his insurrection activities.

Maybe they are doing this just to set a precedent so they can go after Democratic elected officials. We don't need to hand this to them, there are ulterior motives at play here, bet on it.
Never forget, they are the ones who stole the Supreme Court.
