His monotonous screeds are like Chinese water torture to most sane people.
Most understand that he is running for the White House to stay out of the Jail House.
His lies are being exposed one by one and they will be laid bare in a jury trial.
That should be a national holiday.

(72,515 posts)A guy who makes paralyzingly awful business decisions, and has a long, long list of bankruptcies is a "genius businessman".
A guy who chose a 'disability' as laughable as bone spurs in order to get out of serving in the war of his generation is somehow a hypermasculine demigod of strength and power.
A guy who possesses the same level of Biblical knowledge as an earthworm is a devout Christian.
A guy who wouldn't walk across the street to piss on one of his most feverishly devoted followers is a "man of the people".

(4,741 posts)It's never taken intelligence to be a devout christian, or follower of any other religion. It only requires belief. In fact, their "great" minds exalt stupidity and rail against reason and facts.
That's the problem with religion, all stripes. They not only accept people who are stupid, they downright prefer them so much that they go out of their way to make them that way--from birth. What else could possess people to believe the crazy things they claim that just aren't so, like a flat earth, or how you can get striped animals from striped sticks, or whatever weird tale they can cobble together to explain where their imaginary friends come from?
So don't be surprised when christians (or any other religion's) followers are stupid. It's a feature, not a bug.
Really.

An easy group to manipulate and brainwash via Fox News and RW Radio.......Why do you think the new Republican Party targeted that group for massive easy followers and votes??????????? And the Repubs who are sane, particularly the Uber wealthy, are just greedy and would vote for Biden, if HE gave them tax cuts that gave them millions more......
Many actions by these Republican Politicians are not just psychopathic, but driven by a subconscious Sadistic personality also.....
Just look at the numbers of incredibly racist/sadistic Police who are Trump Humpers. They take great joy and get off on inflicting pain and suffering on other individuals........True signs of a Psychotic mind set.......
The Psychiatric community now uses the term "Sociopath" rather than the more explicit "Psychopath"........but there is a difference between the two..........
I asked a psychiatrist friend the difference between the two. He said: "A sociopath 'builds' sandcastles in the sky, the psychopath 'lives' in them....."

(2,373 posts)Hes created this undercurrent of misery, fear, and anger that just about everyone feels. His cultists, of course, put the blame elsewhere, but they feel it to.
Now consider how life would feel if he gets elected again and he, and the evil cabal that will surround him, get to execute their plans.
Recall his infamous quote, if you go after me, Im coming after you. I believe him. Consider what it means for you and me. I think it means that hell empower his cultistsofficially or notto target Democrats. I think it means that well find cultists becoming the equivalent of Stassi informers, eyeing, reporting on, and harassing their Democrat neighbors. Im sure that many of his cultists relish the prospect. What many other cultists dont realize is that they too will be living with the same fear of denunciation and retribution. What a horrible prospect.

(3,396 posts)Sorry. I cannot understand why you keep a friend like that. I mean your choice. But for me what it comes down to is that person doesnt believe another person should have autonomy over their own body. I cannot have a friend like that. To me it would be the same if they said slavery is ok.

(90,765 posts)Its troublesome to me all the time. Weve been friends since we were in grade school and too young for that issue to ever come up til years later.
We have too much else and too many years between us, and too many other shared ideas and values, I guess.
I find myself tempted to think maybe I can sand down that one rough edge but you cant change anyone til they want to change for themselves. And shes never taken steps to change my view on the issue, either, fortunately enough.

(4,741 posts)You live in a country where tens of millions of people believe in all-powerful imaginary friends. After that, it's a day that ends in Y that most of them can believe any nonsense whatsoever.
If you're gullible enough to buy one thing that's stupid, you're likely to be gullible to believe even more stuff that's stupid. And try getting out of it once you're wallowing in stupid. People don't tend to escape it, and don't even try to. They double down, because they're too proud to admit a mistake and say, "Well, I bollocksed that right up." As Carl Sagan famously pointed out, once you get bamboozled, you almost never get out of the bamboozle--because you're too proud to admit you got played.
We need to teach everyone, from an early age, that it's okay to be wrong sometimes, as long as we learn from it. Besides, it's inevitable that everyone, even the smartest people, will be wrong about something. There's no way we can know everything, right off. That's why we all need to learn that mistakes are shameful only if we refuse to learn from them.
But try to get that across to a society that values "owning" people.

(22,873 posts)That doesn't mean they'd all follow him off a cliff. At this point in time, I don't think he has nearly as much power as some would ascribe to him.
I expect a lot of people won't agree, and I'll admit I don't have anything concrete to back this up. I just have a very strong feeling that the fanatical devotees who would do absolutely anything for him are a much smaller percentage of his base than in 2016 or 2020. Yes, some of them are that crazy, but I don't believe the majority are. Yes, he's polling well, but the polls can only tell us so much. The pollsters ask you who you plan to vote for. They don't ask if you would shoot someone or storm the Capitol for that person, much less start a civil war. Being willing to vote for someone is a whole different thing from being willing to do violence on their behalf.
Yes, there are Trump supporters who are willing to do ugly things on his provocation. We all know that. I just think it's erroneous to assume that most of those who are willing to vote for him are in that state of mind, and I'm really not worried about an all out conflagration, especially with a responsible Democrat in the White House. One of the main reasons things got so bad on J6 was that Trump deliberately set things up so there would be inadequate resources available to repell the rioters. That's not going to happen on Joe's watch.

(33,643 posts)Totally agree. What's the expression? A mile wide and an inch deep, something like that?
The fact that less and less pro-Trump protesters are showing up for every indictment is telling.
When Fani gets hers on the books there may be more protesters than there were in DC, given the locale and the fact that ... well, you know, it's a black woman ... but I'm sure they'll behave.
VERY few are gonna risk ruining their lives for IQ45, they saw what happened on 1/6 (which is why it was so important to prosecute these traitors), and they may be dumb in general, but they aren't THAT dumb.

thats all it is. Corporate sponsored gossip. Companies used to sponsor news shows, now its gossip newshe or she said this or something or other.
Politics is more like Entertainment Tonight than 60 Minutes.
Corporations sponsor shows about the actors lives, and not the show theyre acting inreal life in America.

(2,137 posts)That's why various media platforms keep providing content about him. I hate it, too, but I feel like I need to stay informed about him because of the damage he has wrought and could possibly foment in the future.
Love him or hate him, the guy has juice. His draw ( I won't use the word "appeal" ) reminds me of the late Princess Diana's. I keep encountering inane, regurgitated puff pieces about her in different media venues. No matter how stupid or pointless or reworked the tiny tidbit of "news" is, people in the media know that if they put it out there, the public will respond by clicking.
In that way, TFG's sad, black hole of of narcissism will be fed for quite some time to come. His pathetic needs will never be sated, because he is so empty and pointless, but he'll gobble up what comes his way because he's got nothing else to soothe his inner void. Death will be doing him a favor when it comes.
Alas, it won't free us from the damaging ripples of his presence in this world, but eventually the sun will explode and we won't have to hear about him anymore.

So this woman tells Donnie that she dreamed about him last night. They were holding a parade in his honor. The streets were lined with people, all cheering and waving. Children were throwing streamers and confetti. There was music playing and people were dancing in the street. Donnie is very happy about this and he asks her enthusiastically "How was my hair? Did it look great?" and she says "Oh, I don't know about that. The coffin was closed."

If I happen to hear his voice, it is always pitched to a 'let me sway you to take me side' intonation. It is the sound of a person trying to talk someone into wrong-doing, or someone trying to avoid punishment, the long-practiced but to me, unsuccessful whine of a failure.
