(34,845 posts)All those first-responders who risk their lives -fuck them.

(26,591 posts)i can show you 15 talking on the radio about where to go for lunch. another 20 fucking up rush hour traffic and creating gridlock, 10 more sitting around the firehouse waiting for the grub to get done cooking while watching TMZ and another 47 off duty drinking themselves into oblivion (3 of whom will get a "fraternal" pass when they get pulled over for DUI).
first responder worship is bullshit.
yes, they serve a vital public service, but the mythology of them always being in harm's way is a lie.

(34,845 posts)I agree with you -hero worship is bullshit. The same applies for worship of OWS. And the image above does not make that distinction. It simply states that 'government sucks'.
I have no problem with OWS helping out but no other organization takes pains to denigrate everyone else.
With OWS, it's always a plaintive 'Look at us! We are better than everyone else!'.
Just people, like you and me. "Worship" as in self confidence and empowerment on individual and communal levels is a beautiful thing.
I know, it's a big challenge for many of us.

(34,845 posts)That's most of what we hear about OWS. 'Self confidence' and 'empowerment' does not mean implying that government agencies are no good.
The above picture is complete and utter bullshit. Par for the course.

(100,133 posts)We don't "worship" first responders, we see exactly what they do for us, and believe me, when they get a chance to catch some Z's or eat a meal they are covered in soot and sweat and we don't begrudge them. My daughter's lower property was all torn up by fire trucks and equipment because it ended up being a staging area in the last big regional fire we had. Did she go boo-hoo over that? Hell no -- she brought them donuts when she was finally able to go back up the road to see if the house was still standing. They go into terrifying places the rest of us run from. Some of them die.
As for NJ and NY, I am not out there in the flood zone exposing myself to sewage-born diseases, am I? (are you?) I'm safe at home with a case of flu, checking in at DU and generally about ready to chuck DU. Again.
BTW, "Government sucks" and the rest of it are GOP memes, in case you forgot.
Here's to the first responders

(26,591 posts)bullshit.
they do serve a useful and necessary public service. but they are just people who CHOOSE to do what they do for a living. most of their time is spent in idleness or fucking with the public unnecessarily (in the case of LEOs).
but hero worship? fuck that.
enough crying eagles, john wayne, jesus in a tortilla bullshit is enough.

(10,440 posts)Seriously, just trying to show that Occupy is doing good things and we all need to depend and rely on each other instead of the Gov't when the occasion calls for it.
And the response by the Gov't is only as good as the money it can afford and what is put in place in case of an emergency. And we all know how the Republicans feel about thinking ahead for that type of emergency.....

(7,167 posts)I am totally on your side. So far I've just been cheerleading from the sidelines, but hopefully my turn on the front lines will come. My daughter is already a veteran of several Occupations.
