Lukashenko boots Wagner out of Belarus

Lukashenko boots Wagner out of Belarus

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has reportedly kicked the Wagner PMC out of Belarus, after refusing to finance the Russian mercenaries.

Wagner forces left Russia for Belarus as part of a settlement deal brokered by Lukashenko following the armed mutiny on June 24 that saw Wagner’s leader Yevgeny Prigozhin turn on his boss, Russian President Vladimir Putin.

But reports have now emerged suggesting Lukashenko has refused to finance their stay in the country and the mercenaries are being 'bussed' back to Russia for a “vacation.” According to the VChK-OGPU Telegram channel, operations to remove all Wagner Group men began earlier in the month, with a second phase to remove the rest going into effect this weekend.

Wagner’s services don’t come cheap. Putin recently admitted that the Kremlin has spent around $1bn on the private military company last year, using state budget funds. Previously the Kremlin denied all knowledge of Wagner.

The presence of Wagner in Belarus has seriously worried Poland and the Baltic states, as following a successful eight-month long campaign to take the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, Wagner fighters have won a reputation for military ferocity and effectiveness.

Tensions along the Belarus-Poland border have ratcheted up steadily over the last year and reached a fresh high when Belarusian military helicopters flying along the border briefly violated Polish airspace last week.

The worlds #1 Military superpower also turns to unregulated mercenaries for "special work" that needs to be kept out of public scrutiny.

to degrees that might cause even Russian soldiers to rebel?

To be able to sacrifice in numbers that that would cause normal Russian military recruits and their families to rebel?

11. Somewhat apocryphal story

Someone has been putting Wagner recruiting posters on trash receptacles in Poland (good place for them). That part has evidence. A guy was tackled and detained because he was spotted doing it. That's the part that's apocryphal, nobody knows for sure if he's the guy responsible.

Bullshit against Poland might be one reason Lukashenko thinks they've outstayed their welcome. Unlike Putin, Luashenko knows that Poland today is nothing like Poland in 1939. They are now a force to be reckoned with and they'll squash him like a bug if the need arises. Since Putin is no longer capable of paying their way, that's two reasons they have to go. I think Luashenko originally thought they'd be the big dog in the front yard discouraging NATO from invading his country. He didn't know Wagner would be trying to instigate just that.

I'm sure Lukashenko was informed that any Wagner action perceived as a provocation would be considered as a hostile action by Belarus alone. He must have figured, probably correctly, that Vladimir Vladimirovitch would just say, "who? me? no way! You're on your here Alex!"
