General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI finally had all that I could take of the "Civil War" bullshit.
I was enjoying a couple of beers at my local Legion post yesterday afternoon, watching golf, and just shooting the shit. We're about half and half when it comes to the lib/con breakdown, but we pretty much avoid politics and just enjoy each other's company.
But last night a kid I had not seen before, maybe 25 or so, showed up and started to blow MAGA smoke. I found out later from the hostess that he was a Son of the American Legion, meaning he had never served, but his father had. However, that's neither here nor there, because mostly he was just annoying.
He went on for a while about how the right was going to "take back America", and restore Trump to his rightful position in the White House ... the same shit we've all heard ad nauseum. But then he said that he and his "brothers" were ready to take it to the streets if necessary, and if it took a Cvil War to set things right, well then, so be it.
I tried to ignore him, but he just wouldn't shut the fuck up, so I finally turned to confront him.
I said, "Kid, if you ever get your Civil War, it will last about 30 seconds. That's because the first time you see Jim-Bob standing next to you have his fucking head turned into red mist by a .50 caliber sniper round fired from a distance of around 800 yards, you and the rest of your paintball militia will drop your guns, hop on your mopeds, and scamper back to mommy's basement." Then I turned my back on him.
Even the conservatives at the bar started laughing.
The kid never said a word, and didn't even finish his beer. He just kind of disappeared.
It was kind of a "shooting fish in a barrel" situation, but it just felt right.
I would wager that close to 100% of the clowns spouting Civil War rhetoric have never heard a shot fired in anger. If they had, they would be careful what they wished for.

I had a similair run in with a MAGAt at a WalMart I had delivered to, I was shopping for supplies for my refrig in my truck, I was wearing my USMC Retired ball cap and a shirt that said Biden/Harris 2020 when confronted by this asshole who started to berate me for supporting Pres. Biden, I looked him square in the eye and pointed to my hat and said that I had earned the right to support anyone I fucking pleased and asked him if he had ever served, at that point he saw something in my eyes that warned him that he was fucking with the wrong person and decided to walk away while he still could on his own power.

The pictures of these idiots in the memes are even funnier.
What's really unbelievable, though, is seeing Trump go after people like Chris Christie or a Miss Universe contestant about their weight. And he has done so repeatedly and shamelessly. Does this guy own a mirror?!

(1,845 posts)...when the chuds in question are not...er..."horizontally challenged". (Most of them always seem to be, most of the time, however).
I remember there was this really repugnant far-right Catholic cleric, "Father Z", who had followed the EWTN-radtrad path to fame and fortune as a "celebrity priest". (EWTN has had numerous scandals because of these people). Anyway, a few years before "Fr Z" was booted from his diocese by his bishop and told to "get a real job", he had started wearing "tactical blacks"; i.e. he paid some unfortunate tailor to modify military tactical wear so that it looked more like the everyday "blacks" a parish priest wears. Basically, he looked like a Gravy Seal with a Roman collar. And yes, "Fr Z" was rather zaftig, of course.
When I saw the term "TacTard", "Fr Z" was the first chud that came to mind.

(3,997 posts)They are completely ignorant of what will really happen if there is a Civil War. They think they'll dress up in their camo pants, bring their guns and somehow, and just march down Pennsylvania Avenue and stick Trump in the White House. What will happen is that the American military will make quick work of any resistance, with superior weapons and no, those oaths means something and so does defending the country against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
Frankly, I think any real attempts will be broken up before they get going. This cowardly bunch, defending a liar and a loser, will melt away pretty quick when they realize they might really die doing this.
I doubt the bulk of the mindless followers realize that a Civil War in America would be won by Vladimir Putin, who benefits the most from such a scenario, but Trump knows that to be the case and is willing to be the stooge for him.
Justice matters.

(3,301 posts)Any idjit who thinks they're going to have a snowball's chance against the US military in a stand-up engagement is delusional.
The ones to worry about are the ones who aren't planning or dumb enough to get into a stand-up engagement. The ones to worry about are the ones planning to hit things like power stations, water facilities, and other critical infrastructure. Those kinds of insurgent tactics are a lot harder to deal with.
They wouldn't win, but they could certainly blow some stuff up, do some damage, and kill some people before they were tracked down and broken. They certainly wouldn't reinstall Trump in the Oval Office, but a reign of terror, however brief, would still be a horrifying development.

I have high hopes for fistfights at their convention next year. I've been waiting all my life for the unholy alliances devised by Nixon and especially Reagan to break down completely as the devils those two made deals with try to take over from the big money...and each other.
Of course, he was in no mood to listen to where the real fight was going to be. You took care of his dreams of standing atop the barricades, heroically welcoming King TFG into his rightful place over the dead bodies of at least 81 million of his fellow citizens. (22,453 posts)amazing how many of these people sprout off about taking to the streets, etc., and setting 'things' right?
I could go on and on. E.g., what do they mean by 'setting things right'?
And what do they mean by taking America back? Isn't America all of ours, and not just one group of people? How do they justify this unilateral action to illegally overthrow the government (Pres. Biden), for that is exactly what they are proposing.
I guess by default, they would install tRUMP into office of course (illegally of course since tRUMP didn't win still), thus these idiots are talking about illegally replacing a legitimately installed government represented by Pres. Joe Biden.
Your statement about be careful what you wish for, is so on spot, so ironic, for once the gunfire starts, it'll end rather quickly I think, and rather badly, for these idiots, these want-to-play soldiers, these 'fake soldiers', since I seem to recall that our military is still supporting

Reality is somewhat different.
I blame all the American B grade movies where proclaiming yourself to be the Good Guy guarantees a win.
Ever noticed gory video games have a reset option, and the many corpses of your enemies just disappear after a few seconds?
Convenient and tidy, but not realistic.
In reality, corpses stink after a while, enough to make you puke, especially in hot weather, and the flies are in numbers you wouldn't believe.
Being fired at is one type of hell, surviving and being part of the cleanup afterwards is another.
You go numb at the time, the nightmares come later.
I hope it doesn't come to that.

(43,049 posts)eras, and am actually one myself, although I never went to Nam but was drafted in the era.
One thing I have never heard a vet of any era describe is combat itself. My father was, in the Battle of the Bulge, but he never talked about just what it was like to shoot the Nazi who just killed one of your Poker buddies. The fear, the rage, of real war is not talked about by those who have been through it. Is it the wish to forget, or the understanding that you will just never understand?
So, our myths about war talk about the John Wayne parts of it, ignoring the Two Women cowering in the streets with Sophia Loren just praying her daughter survives it all.
