New Ohio redistricting ballot proposal would end lawmakers' map-drawing power

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Progressive activists said they’re gathering signatures to propose a state constitutional amendment on the 2024 general election ballot to “end gerrymandering by taking politicians completely out of the process.”

Details about the specifics of the proposal are not available. A social media account of Indivisible Central Ohio, a chapter of the decentralized progressive grass roots organization, posted Friday that its members were gathering early signatures needed to start the constitutional amendment process.

Other progressive organizations, many of whom supported previous attempts at redistricting reform and opposed State Issue 1, have joined in the effort, the post states. WOSU reports organizers were canvassing over the weekend.

Officials with the Ohio chapters of the League of Women Voters, Common Cause Ohio, and Indivisible all declined to comment. Several referred inquiries to Chris Davey, a communications consultant, who declined to comment. The attorney general’s office has not yet received any filing, per a spokeswoman.

This can be the start to taking Ohio back. In Michigan, it all started with a non partisan commission for redistrcicting that made the ballot.

The Republicans in this state are just corrupt and thumbing their collective nose at repeated orders from the cases before the Ohio Supreme court ordering them to make fair maps.

I am not sure we need another constitutional amendment. We need the current law obeyed.

Elections are the voters exclusive possession…the massive conflicts of interest can not stand.

…election administrators bemoaning their side lost…there should be no sides!
