MI: A majority of Flint City Council members now face approved recall petition drives

FLINT, MI -- Eric Mays has become the fifth member of the Flint City Council facing approved recall petition drives that seek to remove them from their positions.

The Genesee County Election Commission voted unanimously on Monday, Aug. 14, to approve two sets of language targeting Mays, who represents the city’s 1st Ward, after two previous attempts failed last month.

Monday was a difficult day for Mays.

In addition to the recall language having been approved, the councilman lost a court battle Monday morning when Genesee Circuit Judge B. Chris Christenson dissolved an injunction that prevented the Flint City Council from enforcing a month-long suspension against him.

“I ask for the continued support of the residents of the 1st Ward,” Mays said after Monday’s commission meeting, which he did not attend.
