Had my cheek done yesterday and near my ear today. Feel like I got run over by a truck. Im 75 and learning if you are gonna be old you better be tough! Wow. Black eye and lower lid swollen. I need a good nights sleep just for starters. TIA for any comments

(3,943 posts)When I worked in a hospital I knew someone who had it. He was around 60 and it was on his shoulder area. They ended up going pretty deep and he had reconstructive surgery grafting later. He was sore for quite a while (4-5 days) before he started moving his arm around. I hope you feel better.

(3,747 posts)was not happy right after the surgery because she was so sore and swollen. It's been about a month and she is much better and happy with it now. Best wishes to you for a quick recovery!

(7,400 posts)After it healed the scarring was still a little disappointing. Hard to compare. I recently had the traditional removal on my cheek and I was disappointed with that too, so who knows? Regardless, the pain and swelling you are experiencing will go away and then you can judge the result.

Follow the doctor's instructions regarding post-op care for the stitches.

(60,349 posts)I had gallbladder surgery a week last Monday. It was outpatient so my expectations were a quick rest for a couple of days and back at it. Today was the first day I even felt close to normal. Still dealing with some pain.
I am 64. I had more major surgery with less pain.

(4,634 posts)They didnt have to dig too deeply, but when they put me back together it was weird as the doctor would tug hard to get the deeper layers together for stitching. I mean, really hard. Had a hard time not falling over.
Afterward I was pretty sore for a few days. Lots of icing and Tylenol helped. Now I have a divot on my head big enough to catch rainwater.

(34,119 posts)Probably quite a few there.
My cancer was too aggressive for MOHS (which is designed to take basically one cell layer more than the cancer). For my cancer, they needed a full 1 cm margin.

(5,749 posts)Had to go sit in a waiting room with 6 other surgery victims while the lab checked to see if it was all excised. I walked in and pronounced - "This looks like a MASH Unit." Laughs around. Gotta have SOME fun. White gauze bandages all OVER the place! They didn't remove my sense of humor.

(5,749 posts)The bandage is so big and my eye is quite swollen that my IPhone doesn't recognize me. LOL

(23,928 posts)I was also lucky. Every single time, I waited for the tissue to be examined, and was told they got it all, and no further digging would be required.
Did your surgery require repeated excisions?
Either way, I hope you're feeling better soon!

(8,112 posts)What is Mohs surgery? Mohs surgery is a method for treating skin cancer lesions. During this procedure, the surgeon removes thin layers of skin one layer at a time and examines each layer under a microscope to determine if any cancer remains. This procedure continues until only cancer-free tissue remains.
