(R-S.C.) said Monday that former President Trumps fate should be left up to voters instead of liberal jurisdictions trying to put the man in jail.
Graham said on Fox Newss Jesse Watters Primetime that the numerous legal battles Trump is facing are very unfair, adding that they will do a lot of damage to the presidency over time. The senators comments come as a Georgia grand jury hearing evidence about Trumps efforts to overturn the 2020 election returned an indictment Monday night ...

Senator Lindsey Graham responded to Donald Trumps fourth and latest indictment Monday with a radical, extrajudicial demand: that votersnot prosecutors or juriesshould decide the former presidents legal fate. The American people can decide whether they want him to be president or not, Graham said on Fox News after Trump was charged in a sprawling racketeering case stemming from his attempts to overturn Joe Bidens 2020 electoral victory in Georgia. This should be decided at the ballot box, not a bunch of liberal jurisdictions trying to put the man in jail.
The South Carolina Republican also attacked Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis, arguing that her office is too trivial to prosecute a former president. You up Pandoras box to the presidency, he said. This whole exercise of allowing a county prosecutor to go after the former president of the United States will do a lot of damage to the presidency itself over time. (Given that Willis is a state-level prosecutor and not a federal one, Trump would be unable to pardon himself should he reclaim the presidency after any conviction in Fulton County) ...

When Sen. Lindsey Graham appeared on Fox News last night, Donald Trumps fourth indictment hadnt yet been handed down, but there was no great mystery as to what was about to happen. It was only a matter of time.
With this in mind, the South Carolina Republican did exactly what hes been doing for far too long: As The Hill reported, Graham rallied to defend Donald Trump ...

Sen. Lindsey Graham asked the Supreme Court on Friday to block a subpoena from the Atlanta-area special grand jury investigating efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.
The South Carolina Republican filed the emergency request at the high court after the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with a lower-court judge on Thursday that the grand jury could seek his testimony.
Graham maintains that his efforts in Georgia after the 2020 election were legislative activities protected by the Speech or Debate Clause of the US Constitution ...

The Supreme Court said Tuesday that Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., must testify before a grand jury in Georgia. He has been subpoenaed for questioning later this month about allegations that then President Donald Trump tried to interfere with Georgia's ballot count after the 2020 election.
Graham filed an emergency request to block the subpoena late last month. Under the Constitution's "Speech or Debate" clause, sitting senators may not be "questioned" about their legislative activity, which protects them from civil and criminal liability in certain circumstances. The purpose of the clause is to shield legislators from unwarranted intrusions on their duties by other branches of government ...

The Fulton County, Georgia, grand jury investigating efforts by former President Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the results of the 2020 election has recommended to prosecutors that they seek indictments against witnesses who they believe may have lied during their testimony, according to excerpts of the grand jury's report released Thursday.
"A majority of the grand jury believes that perjury may have been committed by one or more witnesses testifying before it," the grand jury wrote in the report. "The Grand Jury recommends that the District Attorney seek appropriate indictments for such crimes where the evidence is compelling" ...

(24,957 posts)And theres no guarantee that he would accept a loss in 2024, although hed be virtually powerless to do anything about it at this time. But that doesnt mean that he and his supporters wont just continue the chaos in the country they started in 2020. Also, why is Graham getting upset? Theres no Constitutional prohibition against him being indicted and tried and continuing to run for President. Theres nothing theoretically about him being unable to win no matter his legal status. His beloved isnt suddenly being denied the ability to run. I hate Lindsey.

I'm so sick of refugs and their circular reasoning. They opted out of convicting trump in his second impeachment. They said to let the justice system decide, because he's now a private citizen. 🙄 Law, order, and accountability does not apply to them apparently. We're going to see if we can change that.

Dont impeach the president let the voters decide. McConnell even proclaiming that they didnt let him off he would face the justice system. So now were supposed to not prosecute him after not being allowed to impeach him but let the voters decide?
