(40,915 posts)Ozymandias BY PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who saidTwo vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

(17,757 posts)There are millions of Americans who will honestly believe, until their dying days, that all of this drama was an unfair, and unprecedented attack on Trump, who is incapable of doing wrong. They will believe that the deep state came after their hero because he was trying to Make America Great Again, that it comes from people who "hate freedom." It works exactly like religions, where no amount of evidence to the contrary can convince a "true believer" that their "god" is a myth, and that disbelief is heresy.

(80,810 posts)AMERICAN COUP: 🪦 Please be aware, as you listen to this recording, that it features Donald Trump, a former President of the United States, and his goons Cleta Mitchell, and Mark Meadows attempting to undermine the votes of the American public whom he has pledged to serve and safeguard. It is acceptable to legally contest an election that he did not win, he was rejected in every court. His actions deem him dangerous and unsuitable for the role of Commander-in-Chief, and any Republicans who support him in this endeavor should also face consequences by forfeiting their positions as lawmakers within our nation. #DemVoice1 #wtpBLUE

(3,782 posts)This is how people are trained to beat polygraphs, and is a fundamental tool of the propagandist. I believe Trump actually studied (obviously not from a book, probably from seminars or teach-ins with Cohn) some of the arts of propaganda because he regularly uses some of the more specialized ones, like A-B testing, in his public appearances. He's been doing it so long that it's second nature to him.

(4,741 posts)They don't have to train to learn how to lie. They lie from the time they realize they can do it. We're talking as young children, 3, 4 years old.
The reason they can beat polygraphs is because they do not have the same responses to things that normal people do. To anything. Normal people have uncontrollable physical reactions when they're under stress, especially the stress of lying--flushed skin, sweating, rapid heartbeat, faster/more difficult respiration, and so on.
Psychopaths don't. They feel nothing when they lie. Or during other things that stress out normal people, like, oh, when a cop pulls them over. Most of us, even if we've done nothing wrong, we'll panic about that, a little or a lot. Psychopaths? No panic, whatsoever, even if they have a dead body in the trunk. Or a live one, tied up. It means nothing to them, the cop means nothing to them, so they don't panic at all. They'll be as cool and calm as can be. Same thing with lying.
We normal people panic or get stressed because we understand potential consequences of actions. I don't know if psychopaths are familiar with that, but what I do know is that they never consider something as meaningless to them as consequences. They don't care about those in the least. That's why lying is easy for them. Because it means nothing to them.
And the things psychopaths will lie about? How many libraries do you want to dig through for examples? They lie to get what they want. They lie to crush your ego for trying to thwart them. They'll lie to get even with someone. Bloody hell, they'll lie for the sheer pleasure of it, and nothing else. They do it, without one iota of panic or anxiety, and they were that way as young children.
My brother is one of these monsters. He could lie with ease at 4 years old--and did. All the time. That wasn't training. That was his psychopathy already exerting itself.
They also don't have to believe a lie they tell, or disbelieve it, either, because belief (or a lack thereof) in what they're saying is entirely immaterial to them. They do not care if something is true or not. The veracity of something doesn't even occur to them. The only thing they believe in is getting what they want. Lies are merely one means to that end for them. They have other evil tricks in their arsenal, but lying is usually the fastest and easiest way to get the job done. Which is why they do it so much.
Too many people make the classic mistake of thinking that psychopaths like TFG are normal and will do things for the reasons normal people do. But they don't. They are not normal.

(10,908 posts)They have to convince people of their scam by presenting it as if they really believe it.
They're criminal actors out of necessity.
If they can't do that, they won't con many people.
Trump has been doing it all his life - he's had a lot of practice.

(39,152 posts)Republicans were so sure that Romney was going to win in a landslide because his rallies seemed larger.
From Forbes article, "Romney Will Win Decisively" published on 11/6/12:
"The enthusiasm factor can be seen in the crowds Romney is attracting bigger ones than Obama and the upbeat mood at these GOP rallies is palpable. A few months ago a number of GOP voters were tepid towards Romney. They have since become fully committed"

(39,152 posts)think he's a sleazy criminal/traitor and a big fat baby, there are comments from cultists who are insisting he either did "nothing wrong" or that the "lamestream media" sliced and diced the call to make Benedict Donald look guilty. Utterly. Fucking, Hopeless. Hell, even 53% of Fox-PAC simps think he should've been indicted.
The nice thing that the folks at 11Alive did when posting the recording of the call was bleep out Ruby Freeman's name, something I wish the NBC recording would've done.

(7,794 posts)I'm sure the whole country will have ample opportunity to hear it in total, at least as a sum of excerpts, in the course of reporting his trials over the next year or so.
The country was forced to listen to his voice for much longer than is healthy for its wellbeing while he was squatting in the oval office. The next months and years of testimony will de-normalize his presence in our national psyche. It should. It should make clear, in a way that only trauma can imprint on the mind, just how perverse and unnatural his every personal nuance and presence in history actually is. He is the psychotic excesses of Al Capone, the bombast of Gingrich aspiring to match Mussolini, the pettiness of small popes empowered with the outrage of inquisition, and all of it empowered by 24-7 lies and gullibility. His placement in the limelight of a waning "modern" world echoes the haplessness of a species whose supremacy relies on unregulated fecundity.

His face makes me want to vomit and his voice is cringe worthy. I spent the entire four years not watching any news item that had him on it. My mute button and channel changer on the remote is probably ready to die from all of that.
All I want to see is him in an orange jumpsuit, with no makeup and handcuffed and frog marched to his cell. Then I think we can truly start to heal as a country. If he ever is allowed to skate on all of this, I truly believe there would be a civil war and it wouldn't be the magats starting it. It would be all us "good guys". This is OUR democracy and I'll defend it and my right to vote any way necessary.
