... a local firearms dealer is being sued for what an injured student's parents say was negligence in selling the handgun used.
Acme Shooting Goods is accused of not adequately preventing James Crumbley from buying a 9mm Sig Sauer SP 2022 pistol for his 15-year-old son Ethan four days before the gunfire that killed four schoolmates. The federal lawsuit claims the transaction, as Ethan stood alongside his dad, was an illegal "straw purchase" because teens under 18 can't possess a handgun in Michigan ...

(34,214 posts)It is perfectly legal for a father to purchase a handgun with a minor in tow. It's even legal to have the minor evaluate the gun assuming he would be supervised by an adult when shooting it.
I think they would need to prove that the father bought the handgun with the intention of letting the minor possess it without any supervision unlawfully. That would probably be difficult.
But it's probably worth a try.

(11,767 posts)Conservatives absolutely understand that they do not (and have never) had numbers on their side. This is why they lie, they create these "culture war" and wedge issues, and they use dirty tricks like voter suppression.
They rile up their smaller, but easier to activate base with fear and hatred. They then use all kinds of tricks to depress the vote of people who are a large minority of the electorate, people who aren't really paying attention. It is a calculated numbers game for them. They do most of their "active" messaging to keep their based aroused and activated. Meanwhile they work in the background on ways to keep the numbers down for the majority of people who agree with liberal policies, but who aren't highly motivated to vote. Disaffected people who are busy or who think that nothing changes.
They are not "tone deaf" as you say, they just know exactly who they are playing to.
