SACRAMENTO Today, Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency for much of Southern California to support Hurricane Hilary response and recovery efforts as the state continues mobilizing and coordinating resources ahead of the storms forecasted impacts starting today. The text of todays emergency proclamation can be found here.
Hurricane Hilary is currently a Category 2 storm that the National Hurricane Center says is expected to bring catastrophic and life-threatening flooding to Baja California and the Southwestern U.S., including Southern California. Much of the impacts of the storm, including heavy rainfall and high winds, are expected to begin today and last through Monday.
At the Governors direction, there are currently more than 7,500 boots on the ground deployed to help local communities protect Californians from the impacts of Hurricane Hilary.

(4,002 posts)Checking in from Palm Springs tonight. I picked up sandbags today at the city hall (hard work) and my house is as secure as I can make it. I'm in a very low risk flood zone, so I think my biggest worry is going to be losing power.
I have solar, which still generates even with clouds. It won't support the AC, but at least I'll have the refrigerator, fans, and a TV. I ran to Arco and up the tank on the car and stopped at Walmart and stocked up. We are as ready as we will ever be. Wish us luck.

(5,114 posts)Tomorrow (Sunday) is supposed to be rockin n rollin. Weve got the green house secured and sand bags in front of the garage door. Cars are gassed up, food supplies, and devices charged. Our sons did most of it. Theyre preparing for the worst. Im so grateful for their help. Were really not used to weather.
