It doesn't matter if lawyers, law professors, constitutional scholars or political pundits say Donald Trump is "automatically" disqualified from running for office under the 14th Amendment. Reality is that no election official is going to kick him off the ballot absent a prosecution and conviction in Court.

(855 posts)Very few people take the time to try to be truly independent, even if they lean towards one party of set of candidates or news etc.
The levels and degrees of influence throughout the families and societies in the US is staggering.
But again
hypothetically yes.

That can have a huge effect in 6 or 8 key battleground states.

The cravenness, the mendacity, the criminality, the cozy relations with dictators ... The idea that they should or would somehow base their choice on some obscure - and never acted upon - theory by constitutional scholars ... That's a stretch.

Also, beware the Law of Unintended Consequences because nobody will bring out the vote more on the Left than having Trump as the GOP nominee. Let's be honest...Biden's approval numbers would not be as low as they are if Democrats soundly supported him. The Left may be far more anti-Trump than they are pro-Biden.

(15,419 posts)a) it won't happen - and b) if by some wild whimsy it did happen - it quite likely would be regarded as some species of chicanery and 'backroom maneuvering' - by far to many voters.
