Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsCharles Pierce has a simple solution to the justice system's Trump problem: Toss him in a cell.
...Slap a GPS tracker on one of his swollen ankles and confine him to his banana farm in Florida. Drop a multimegaton fine on him every time he goes batshit on social media. Freeze his assets. Treat him like a mob boss, a drug kingpin, or the leader of a terrorist cell because, in one way or another, he is all three of those things.
If his corporal's guard of a legal team wants to litigate these measures, let them have at it. If his mouthbreathing devotees want to make trouble, point them towards the hundreds of people now doing time for what they did on January 6. If he wants to test the strength of the rule of law, let the rule of law at least give him a battle without tying its hands through timidity and anticipatory dread. It's worth fighting for.

(7,059 posts)I may have the reason for this timidity on the part of those in authority. They retain the illusion that Trump is the embodiment of some future "anybody" who may gain (on run for) the Oval Office. Their hypothetical "anybody" should NEVER be in any way like Trump. Trump is an aberration of the set of entities we call "humans". It would be a great service of instruction to the ninnies among us who could be tempted to support some future aberration if they were to see him subject to every possibility which the justice system holds for dealing with attention seeking recalcitrant awaiting trial.
What apparently haunts the current cabal of "powers that be" is uncertainty that our system of government could/would prevent some future executive or faction wreaking retribution on them and their interests. It's no wonder of the proliferation of ninnies in our midst if our "best and brightest", our judiciary (for instance), live in fear and mistrust of the power which defines democracy.
That being said, it is all a fine mess we're in. Still, most voters see nothing wrong that an ex-president should suffer the same inconvenience as they if they were to bring indictment upon their own heads through such blatant and reckless stupidity. If anybody cares about the voters (or their votes), it is upon this issue where they would find a point of bi-partisan commonality and grass-root support. Irony is NOT dead, the concept of equal justice before the law, an issue Democrats can win over "conservatives" with, is being brought to us free of charge, a gift, from Trump's entitled ass bullshit. Jail him if he so much as breathes funny.

(2,230 posts)Ulysses S Grant was arrested for speeding (he loved racing horses through DC) while he was President!
He actually checked up on the arresting officer to make sure he wasn't retaliated against.
Maybe this whole notion of an untouchable and holy presidency started after Nixon? It definitely was in full force with Bush the Lesser with Cheney spouting off theories of a Unitary Executive".

(7,700 posts)It just reinforces in his mind that he's a King and has an army of followers that will respond to his every slight. The Rule of Law will cease to have any meaning if this very public example of it being flaunted is allowed to continue.
Next time, or this time (I get confused it happens so much) he disregards the instructions given him, throw him in jail and we, and the rest of the country, won't have to hear another thing from him.
With radio silence his supporters will find better things to do after the initial flurry of outrage that the law is being followed.

(82,020 posts)If you judge by the increasingly flaccid and deteriorating response from his shrinking gangs of goons, theyre likely to lose interest.
Therell be no big-ass self-appointed cheerleader to egg them on. And what does the crowd at the game do when theres nothing to stir them up. Maybe they sit there. Maybe they try to cheer on their own without direction. And maybe they go to the snack bar.
Sure, therell be the die-hands who just wont quit him, but their numbers are dwindling, not growing.
I cant help but suspect that more of em are either giving up on him or just getting bored with him. Nothing ever changes with him. He keeps yapping. Keeps invading our space. Sooooo
time to start shutting him out.

(7,839 posts)If such a line was crossed, and a written judicial interim release comdition was probably violated
any of he various prosecutors would act, as legally permitted and bound by the rules of law. As they already have with dozens of individual felony charges to date.
Professionals are limited by ethics and rules, charlatans not so much.

(7,700 posts)But, I can't help but imagine my poor ass would be in jail if those tweeXs, or whatever, were worded as his, f.i.and I'd stood on crowded street corners or parks parroting the Trump shtick.
It's just another example that points to the inequity of our Judicial system and needs correcting.

(111,814 posts)Best we can hope for is he goes on house arrest. It's still the off season in Florida, so losing income at MaraLardo wouldn't inconvenience him all that much. Having no phone or internet will have to do, and this if he contacts a witness or anyone else involved with his trial in any way. The place will have to be swept clean frequently and any lawyer who lends him a phone needs to be sanctioned to the tune of six figures.
And if he cuts off that ankle bracelet, then maybe he goes a more secure situation short of the clink unless he's fled offshore.
That's how it's going to be, I'm afraid, the worst president in our history still being a former president and treated with kid gloves.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_by_boiling
"Death by boiling is a method of execution in which a person is killed by being immersed in a boiling liquid. While not as common as other methods of execution, boiling to death has been practiced in many parts of Europe and Asia. Due to the lengthy process, death by boiling is an extremely painful method of execution.
Executions of this type were often carried out using a large vessel such as a cauldron or a sealed kettle filled with a liquid such as water, oil, tar, or tallow, and a hook and pulley system."
