Entangled Photons are so Tao

Visualizing the mysterious dance: Quantum entanglement of photons captured in real-time

by University of Ottawa, Aug. 21, 2023

Researchers at the University of Ottawa, in collaboration with Danilo Zia and Fabio Sciarrino from the Sapienza University of Rome, recently demonstrated a novel technique that allows the visualization of the wave function of two entangled photons, the elementary particles that constitute light, in real-time.

Using the analogy of a pair of shoes, the concept of entanglement can be likened to selecting a shoe at random. The moment you identify one shoe, the nature of the other (whether it is the left or right shoe) is instantly discerned, regardless of its location in the universe. However, the intriguing factor is the inherent uncertainty associated with the identification process until the exact moment of observation.

The wave function, a central tenet in quantum mechanics, provides a comprehensive understanding of a particle's quantum state. For instance, in the shoe example, the "wave function" of the shoe could carry information such as left or right, the size, the color, and so on.

More precisely, the wave function enables quantum scientists to predict the probable outcomes of various measurements on a quantum entity, e.g. position, velocity, etc.

Chapter Twenty-one

The greatest Virtue is to follow Tao and Tao alone.
The Tao is elusive and intangible.
Oh, it is intangible and elusive, and yet within is image.
Oh, it is elusive and intangible, and yet within is form.
Oh, it is dim and dark, and yet within is essence.
This essence is very real, and therein lies faith.
From the very beginning until now its name has never been forgotten.
Thus I perceive the creation.
How do I know the ways of creation?
Because of this.

PS: You are most welcome, MagickMuffin. Jane English and Gia-fu Feng published a magnificently illustrated translation of Lao Tzu’s work in the 70s. Someone grabbed the words and posted themonline:

And yes the illustrations are as you mentioned magnificently illustrated book.

Also great reminder for Chapter Twenty One

2. The scoft at sage and ancient understandings of the 'understanding' to reality ...

The sage and ancient understandings of the 'understanding' of reality, usually scoffed at today, are demonstrated to be damn good approximations to the ultimate truths of whatever a physicist's deepest desire for a unified-field-theory may be; as well as the Brahman taught in the Upanishads.

From a Dr. Rao, expert the Upanishads…

On the close perusal of the Upanishads, we can realize that the underlying principle of them is consciousness which is immortal and the realization of which keeps one beyond death and makes him the enjoy er of Supreme Bliss. Chandogya Upanishad also states that the nature of Atman (soul) is Sat, Chit and Ananda; Ever-existent, Consciousness and Bliss. All beings here are indeed, born from Bliss, having been born, they remain in Bliss, and on departing, they enter into Bliss.

The differences among the concepts, ideas, meanings, and functions labeled by the words 'consciousness' and 'self-conscious' and 'awareness' of objects are subtle, but give rise to confusions about the nature of 'self', certainly creating the world problem of 'self-consciousness'.

Not necessarily to worship, but for our awareness.

Thank you for the heads-up. Existence and reality are marvels, gifts with which to participate and ponder.

…a sample on photons and entanglement:

https://phys.org/tags/entangled+photons/

Incredible information that our physical universe presents and our minds can ponder.

As for photons, what a magnificent phenomena. It lights up a reality, yet will not fill a thimble.

While I too appreciate Phys.org, National Geographic is more my current mental speed.

I was given a subscription in the 1950s and kept it up for 20-30 years but they started to be too much like Psychology Today (and others) with less good science. I've recently restarted a subscription and enjoying it.

Science News is also great but I can get similar content from news feeds (phys.org and Scitech Daily) and it is not cheap!
