saw so many names I remember. I wish it had a guest book or thread post where we could leave thoughts.

(113,973 posts)We see their names mentioned from time to time, but rarely can anyone tell us what became of them. sigh...
Admittedly a few of those who were purged some time ago--after whatever emotional posting episode confrontation caused them to be "flagged for review"-- make up some of them. As to the latter, I'd love for EarlG to consider some kind of controlled amnesty if it could be implemented with some guardrails. I know that some of them continued to lurk--at least for a while...
But, yes, the memorial page brings back a lot of poignant memories...

(40,365 posts)And I see names I haven't seen around for years. Some were banned or flagged for review, others did not agree to the terms and many just stopped posting for whatever reason.
I think it'd be interesting if we could have a group where one could ask "Whatever happened to .... ?".

So many names are there... and the great deal more names that posted in the "in memorial" thread that do not post anymore. OMG. So many user names. Where did they all go?

(13,032 posts)There are so many people who were beginning members who are gone. I wish now that I would have overcome my hesitation to register as a member instead of this year. This site has carried me through so much. The wonderful, intelligent folks that shared who they were and engaged over this new (old) system of online interaction.
I never had a computer until my mother died in 2002. I got one to interact with her when we knew the cancer was terminal. I visited DU so often it became a daily learning experience for me.
My life has been continual grieving. I lost 45 people in 20 years and finally stopped counting. Twice the deaths were 8 at a time. I never was able to grieve properly before another death would happen. I even studied death and dying, the mourning process and how we age. My education was in the new field of Gerontology. Back in 1986 I got my Masters.
Anyway, many years have passed and I was not able to interact because of my own mental health reasons. People (even friends and ones who you think are friends) do not want to be around someone with that much loss in their life. So, I kept it in and retreated from the world over the 20 years.
Thank you for being here at one time and may those who remember them have a peace from their interactions.
