(102,791 posts)I do a global survey of the satellite composites first thing every morning. It's pretty busy over there.
I am so accustomed to hurricanes in the Atlantic that those showing up in the eastern Pacific fascinate me. Plus the huge gyre (our current heat dome is trapped within it) rotating in a clockwise motion has been present over the central US for months and has been dragging anything that come near into the pattern you can see from the B&W satellite shot.
Well, it was very clear to see yesterday as the moisture from Hilary stretched from Mexico to Canada and then back down into New England. What was left of the eye blasted through here yesterday, we got a lot of good rain from it. It hit a lot of the wildfire areas so that was really good. Sadly, it didn't get all the fires up into Canada but it got to some. The one that just popped up in the Gulf is tracking toward the edge of the dome and might bring rain in Montana. I do not recall, ever, a time when weather systems that passed over SoCal would travel north to Montana before heading eastward... that's been going on since early spring.

(43,165 posts)Do you do this for work or because you have an interest in weather?

(102,791 posts)I spent a lot of my life outside or in a vehicle traveling so weather was a first thing in the morning and check again several times a day thing. I also gravitate to more extreme environments so it's still a necessity so never stopped watching. Love having the satellite composite loops for large areas of the planet, there's a lot to see and understanding is much easier with a bigger picture. I guess you could say I'm a sky watcher.
