The rest of us want a speedy trial as well. The sooner these criminals are behind bars, the better!

"Kenneth Chesebro, the lawyer associated with Donald Trump’s campaign who thought up the legal theory behind the so-called fake electors scheme, appears to have been on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021,"

Speed in judicial terms is a relative concept, and when you have one particularly vexious litigant hell bent on slowing things down your demands won't get you very far.

In fact, demands in general are a good way to piss off a judge.

GA has a strict speedy trial law and when requested by the defendant there are no exceptions.

But when you indict 19 people for the same conduct then you get what you get.

But...y'know, if he REALLY wants to start breaking rocks right away, why not? March 2024 takes two things into account: they're going to try nineteen people at once, and those nineteen people should have time to prepare.

What we do NOT need is the 2026 date Trump wants.

Unless I missed it I don't think Trump has made a motion yet in the GA case for a suggested trial date.

There are no exceptions when requested by the defendant. It is not a "demand" other than demanding state law be followed.

If he doesn’t get his trial as established by statute he’s automatically acquitted of the charges. Knowing the complexity of the case and his co-defendants wanting to stretch this out, he’s putting a lot of pressure on the State. If he gets his speedy trial it will also signal the prosecution strategy to the other defendants.

Also, when the other co-defendants witness him getting convicted on all charges, they may seek a plea deal to lesson their sentences.
