'I literally am furious!' Marjorie Taylor Greene loses it after being 'blocked out' by Fox News
Moments after the first 2024 Republican presidential primary debate on Wednesday, Greene told RSBN host Brian Glenn that Fox News refused to let her enter the so-called spin room as a surrogate for Trump because he boycotted the event. Fox News made it clear ahead of time that Trump surrogates would not be admitted if he did not participate.
And I just want to go ahead and let you know, and for the audience listening, they just blocked us out," she complained. "They would not allow myself, Matt Gaetz, any other Trump surrogates to go into the spin room... So this is censorship from Fox News. This is censorship, not allowing surrogates for President Trump to go into the spin room."
"I'm sorry," the lawmaker fumed. "I'm still so mad that we just were blocked out. I literally am furious."

(1,654 posts)She really thought they could just push their way in despite the fact that Fox put a rule in place. Like the shock on a little kid's face when they find out no really meant no. Trumpies are not used to that. Not at all. Especially from other Republicans.

I guess that Margerine Tainted Greene forgot that Fox is a privately owned company and has no obligation to let her,
Gaetz or any other MAGAt MF'er spew their toxic bullshit.
As much as I detest Fox, I'll give them credit where credit is due.

(11,767 posts)Unfortunately there are also a lot of idiots who don't pay attention to politics, who hear soundbytes and then remember something vaguely later on about how the "media blocked Trump"...
Greene and her ilk will often spew the most inane shit that anyone with a 5th grade education who is paying attention will say, "Umm that isn't correct, she/he/they are stupid".
Like when she says Disney is "corporate communism". What the fuck even is that? It makes no sense but people have this vague dislike of "corporations" because many multinational corporations are run for greed and hurt people. Americans have also been conditioned since the 1930's to be deathly afraid of Communism. To her brain dead followers they just hear, "BAD BAD" and to those others who aren't really paying close attention they get a sense that, "something isn't quite right" they don't know what, or care to look, but they "heard something".
They see the "outrage" and hear the trigger words, "Free Speech" and then it slides into the back of their minds to be recalled at a later date. Academically, it is stupid as hell, but from a standpoint of propaganda, it is sadly effective.

(28,562 posts)For your continuing education, Margie:
THE ERINYES (Furies) were three goddesses of vengeance and retribution who punished men for crimes against the natural order. They were particularly concerned with homicide, unfilial conduct, offenses against the gods, and perjury. A victim seeking justice could call down the curse of the Erinys upon the criminal. The most powerful of these was the curse of the parent upon the child--for the Erinyes were born of just such a crime, being sprung from the blood of Ouranos (Uranus), when he was castrated by his son Kronos (Cronus). (18,171 posts)The rules were made very clear that if Benedict Donald didn't participate in the "debate", then no spokesperson for him would be allowed in the spin room.
Fox, as a privately owned business, has no obligation to let her or any of her MAGAt toadies spew their crap on their venue, there is no 1A violation involved.
She can try to sue, but it would get laughed out of court at the first hearing, if it even made it that far.

(171,935 posts)Yes - they are allowed to because as much as they have tried to become the mouthpiece of the GOP "government", they really aren't "the government" (in the form of Congress making law) as defined by the First Amendment (explicitly stated).
So as a GOP-unregulated private entity, they can pretty do whatever the hell they want because people like you made it so, and even petition your GOP-packed SCOTUS to enforce that!

(11,767 posts)That is who she is playing to, ignorant people who are lead primarily by their emotions rather than by any real understanding of the actual issues.
My concern with Fox News hasn't necessarily been that they are right wing propaganda (though I would prefer that partisan propaganda not be on the airwaves). My problem has been that Fox and others like it, have represented themselves deceitfully. They said, "Fair and Balanced" then they moved to, "We report, you decide" when both of those phrases are complete bullshit. If they said, "We are trying to put out information from a strictly Conservative point of view for people who either agree with us or who want to know how Conservatives see the issue" I wouldn't have a problem with that. It would give people a choice and the information they need to make that choice.
Right wingers have always been effective at both lying about the issues, but also making them strictly emotional. That is what Greene and the other Trump surrogates are doing here. They are going out and whining about "not fair" and like Guliani yesterday, "They are taking away my right to be a lawyer". He has NO RIGHT to be a lawyer. That is a privilege you have to earn and keep by your actions. However, people hear "taking away my rights" and it triggers emotions. People hear "censorship" and "free speech" and again, emotions are triggered. No one wants their "Freedom of speech" taken away. I don't want police or some government agency to sanction or arrest me for saying that, "the Conservatives in Government have no loyalty to the people and they are horrible leaders" I should have every right to say that without legal repercussions. What I HAVE NO RIGHT TO, is to go on the media and say that. I have NO RIGHT to have that message amplified. I have NO RIGHT to say what I said, without some kind of social repercussion either. I may lose friends. I may get criticized. If I am a business person, people may boycott my products because they don't like what I said. All of those things can be technically censorious, but they are not CENSORSHIP or taking away my FREE SPEECH.
When the government leaned on Hollywood Studios to "Black List" actors who were sympathetic to Socialist and Communist causes or policies, and when the Studios used that backing from government to try to crush Labor Unions, THAT was against Free Speech. HUAC was anti-Free Speech. Infiltrating and destroying the Black Panthers and COINTELPRO was anti-Free Speech, but even if Greene actually knew what all those things were, she'd probably praise those actions by government rather than "defend free speech" because to them it isn't about free speech. It is about amplifying their own message at any cost.
