I honestly feel that this is a sad day for America

Necessary, to be sure, though. And I'm more than grateful that a monster is being brought to justice.

But this is not how America's supposed to be. I blame any and all trump voters for this shit show.

The crime was observed by the whole world and not just Americans are victims of this monster. Nothing about our politics have been normal since he entered it. We’ve got to make him go away somehow. Europe is already nervous that he could get reelected

For NO good reason.

I hope that President Biden's campaign does not try to pander to S Florida's intransigent "exile" community.

But prudence does not allow me to share it. It's a bit funny, though.

The Senate failed this country. Trump by all rights should've been impeached and barred from office long ago.

Not as sad as the 2 days when the cowards in the senate let him off.

No todays sadness for America is offset by the hope that he won’t be let off again.

Sure, we haven't had a president indicted several times and having to be booked, again. Then again, we could have and should have, at least 2 other times. Nixon SHOULD have been indicted, but he resigned and then was pardoned for Watergate. He actually should have been investigated for something prior to Watergate. He should have been investigated for his role in the Chennault Affair in which his campaign went behind the backs of the Johnson Administration and sabotaged the Paris Peace talks by offering his "better deal" and plan to the South.

Ronald Reagan should have been indicted for his role in Iran-Contra. He went behind the Carter Administration's back and made a deal with Iran to keep the hostages to hurt Carter in the 1980 election. To make good on the deal, he sold weapons illegally to Iran, then funneled that money illegally to right wing death squads in Nicaragua.

Not prosecuting those crimes lead to Bush and Cheney lying about Iraq. Not looking into that debacle then lead to Trump.

You have to realize that right wingers have been playing a "long game" to creep more and more into power despite the fact that their policies are not in line with a large majority of American citizens.

The United States is not a "horrible" place as some would argue, but it isn't the "shining city upon the hill" that others state either. We are a country that has done some great things and that has done some terrible things just like any other country.

What I think makes people "sad" is that we are taught to see ourselves as "Exceptional" when we really aren't. We are a country with a relatively unique beginning, in that we went against absolute monarchy as a ruling system and tried to establish a more democratic system.

The good thing is that we are finally trying to actually hold someone who held a very powerful position in society accountable. That is a good start.
