For instance "Joe Biden is a communist sympathizer" in Miami, would go a long way towards knowing how to develop communications effectively.

(40,980 posts)In a way it's so preposterous that a political party exists because of lies.
Somehow that has to stated.
People are apparently not that smart. Worse, they're willfully stupid.

(4,030 posts)Simple message - Republicans are destroying the nation with their lies
Repeat the message over and over again. Just keep pounding the message home
It's really that simple

(28,836 posts)Net effect: essentially zero. Know why? Because everyone knows he's a liar and the people who support him don't care.
Focusing on the opposition is usually a poor strategy. Calling the GOP liars when everyone knows they're liars is unlikely to gain any traction -- it certainly hasn't for the past 40 years. Republican voters *want* their representatives to lie, and the single-digit percentage of true independents bailed on them a couple of elections ago.
We should focus more on what Biden and Democrats have done and will continue to do. Turnout is the key, as it always is. They need reasons to vote *for* us (there are plenty) and not just against the GOP.

(4,030 posts)The left thinks they know better, but simple messages repeated over and over again have far more impact. Documenting 30,000 lies isn't a simple message

(4,191 posts)if the M$M would openly say these are lies or if they'd refuse to repeat lies. But they won't, because all they are interested these days is generating pieces that attract eye balls. Publishing these lies only serves the troll factories and their bottom lines.
I doubt most of the M$M realize the party of lies will focus on them as soon as they gain any real power.

(55,334 posts)We have economic troubles, of course. We will always have economic troubles. That is the nature of a free enterprise system.
But when Republican leaders talk about how the country is /"in the biggest mess it's ever seen", I have to wonder what the heck they're talking about. 3.5% inflation (the 2nd lowest among all developed nations)? Slightly higher than ideal interest rates? Traffic congestion from a robust economy?
Or maybe they're all Doom and Gloom over a burgeoning national debt problem... that they themselves are mostly responsible for.
Seriously, it's like they're living on another planet. I know they have to sell fear in order to win an election. The alternative, coming up with actual policy remedies for the problems in society, is unthinkable.

(13,561 posts)yard. In the few seconds it took to walk past the truck, I heard the host say that the Washington establishment is out of control. MAGATs are hearing this crap constantly, and they believe it because thats what they want to believe. What all these lies are doing is dismantling our democracy in bits and pieces by destroying faith in our democratic institutions.
The Supreme Court is gone already. The only hope for it is an expansion with four progressives. Now that Republicans control the House, Congress no longer functions for much of anything but bare necessities to keep the government operating. The Senate doesnt have enough of a majority to stop Republicans like Tuberville and Paul from disrupting the appointments or promotions of hundreds of people. Arcane rules passed during a time when gentlemens agreements were part of the acceptance for negotiation are long outdated and need to be jettisoned to get the business of the country done.
Polls show that people have little faith now in Congress or the Supreme Court. And now Republicans are doing their best to destroy faith in the FBI, the DOJ, the fair application of the law, and trial by jury. Once they finish destroying those, all thats left is the presidency and if Trump is elected even that will become a relic of the past. I still have hope, but Republicans and their media have done an enormous amount of damage to this country.

(2 posts)Thank you for posting this, I've been worrying about the same thing.
I understand that Jack Smith was making a legal point in a legal filing, and it is absolutely true that it isn't illegal to lie, but it was all we heard for a couple of weeks after the indictment was filed. Lawyers have a first amendment right to lie as citizens, but they also have professional ethical obligations and if they lie in the course of doing their jobs they can be disbarred.
I would be much happier if every time some pundit said "Trump had a first amendment right to lie" they would follow it with something like - "Of course, when a president lies about our election system being corrupt he is shirking his responsibilities to the public, violating his oath, and revealing himself to be unfit to hold office". I'm a little worried that if Trump is acquitted the narrative will be that everything was totally fine all along, and since he did nothing illegal he did nothing wrong.

(3,223 posts)For too long, we Dems believed we could negotiate in good faith. That time is long gone. We need to take back the House, strengthen our majority in the Senate, and keep the Presidency. Then we need to act without fear, and pass the legislation that will strengthen and grow our society from the middle out.

(2,973 posts)they helped usher in Trump with all their previous egregious lies--but especially since he lost the election they have helped sustain the angry mobs by refusing to state the truth about Trump and the 2020 election.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)Whenever anything comes into a conversation, or is being discussed, that I am sure is false, I make a point of clearly stated "That is a lie".
They get away with it a lot because people, and especially the media, prefer to soften the response by saying things like " So-and-so claims that..." or "So-and-so mistakenly states that...", rather than saying "So-and-so is lying when he states that..." It is not a mistake when the person knows of the correct information but chooses to "believe" (and spread) incorrect information.
For example: flat-earthers do not mistakenly "believe" the earth is flat, because there is absolutely no evidence it's flat and there IS massive evidence it's not flat, so they are not mistakenly "believing" anything, they are LYING, to themselves and everyone else.

Please don't dismiss this with "we're better off without these ignorant people". These were good people who were lied to, over and over again, by people they thought they could trust.
