(19,222 posts)Maybe everyone should be required to wear state-approved name tags.
And maybe the state legislators should get a friggin' life. And a new job.

Unfortunately, even in the West there are countries with approved lists of childrens names. But, they generally dont exclude nicknames, which is why what a person answers to can sometimes be wildly different from their given name.

(19,222 posts)the wisest thing to do was just ignore it, lest it wind up sticking. (Most of my nicknames were usually given me by others, now that I think about it. Whether I chose to answer to them was my decision, without the help of the state.)

(3,419 posts)the preposterous nature of the new law by adhering to it in the strictest sense.
If that is the case, it is brilliant trolling by the school admin - which says in effect,
'...this stupid law was brought to you by your crazy representatives - next time vote accordingly.'
Keep in mind that many teachers and school admins do not support the actions of the
state legislators.

(7,417 posts)She lives in Davenport area. Her son is Christopher, the third, named after Dad and Grandpa. He goes by Cass. I gather the school has a file where parents have to put any nicknames, gender etc for the school admin and teachers. If it's missing, they get a letter.
Her email includes something along the lines of "SF 496, signed by Republican Governor Kimberly Kay Reynolds on May 26, 2023"
Seems like this is partly legal cover for the school but also an in your face about where this absurdity came from.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
