The HillSen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Sunday defended his endorsement of President Biden and pushed back against criticism from third-party progressive candidate Cornel West, who claimed the senator was supporting Biden because hes fearful of neo-fascism of Trump.
Where I disagree with my good friend of Cornel West is, I think in these really, very difficult times where there is a real question whether democracy is going to remain in the United States of America, Sanders said on CNNs State of the Union when asked about Wests remarks.
You know, Donald Trump is not somebody who believes in in democracy, Sanders continued. Whether women are going to be able to continue to control their own bodies, whether we have social justice in America, we end bigotry around that, I think, we have got to bring the entire progressive community to defeat Trump or whoever the Republican nominee will be.
Sanders, an independent senator, said its important still to call on Biden and the entire Democratic Party to hold progressive policy positions and to stand up to corporate greed a policy position also held by West.

I had my problems with him in 2016 but hes basically redeemed himself, in my eyes.

(7,401 posts)2. I doubt Sanders has done anything out of fear his whole life.
He is what he is. If Vermont doesn't like him anymore, I think he'd rather go home, read, write, annoy Jane, etc than to bend who he is for anyone. This is not to say to say he isn't open to new learning. Of course. But the man is going to be who he is whether we like him or not. My very humble opinion.

(15,463 posts)3. if you AREN'T fearful (to some degree)
of Trump and a rising fascist tide in the U.S. ...
Then you are either disordered in your thinking - or are not terribly observant.
(personally - I think this 'conflict' falls under the category of 98% 'manufactured.' I can't take particular exception with either man, or their 'statements.')
