"SNIP........
Is it time for Republicans to take Nikki Haley seriously?
According to a new Emerson College Polling survey, Haley saw the largest increase in support among Republican candidates, jumping 5 points from 2 percent to 7 percent following last weeks debate.
Nikki Haleys support increased from about 2 percent to 9 percent among voters over 50 [years of age], said Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling, while Trumps support dropped within this age group from about 56 percent to 49 percent after the debate.
This jump is modest, inasmuch as it still leaves Haley in the single digits. But its also no outlier. According to a poll conducted by The Washington Post, FiveThirtyEight, and Ipsos released last Thursday, voters were persuaded to at least give her a second look. Pre-debate, 29 percent of GOP primary voters who watched the debate said they were considering voting for her, according to the survey, and that increased to 46 percent after the debate.

Not in the post-Roe era. No way.

(895 posts)If Trump is basically ahead in the polls until spring, maybe even winning a few states, then someone like Haley jumps ahead and gets the nomination. Then Trump could claim he was winning but they rigged it and stole it from him (his usual go-to). That could then peel off at least a chunk of the die-hard Trump voters, who wouldn't vote for another GOP nominee.
Actually having Trump as the nominee is a little too dangerous, I think.

(13,850 posts)As a country we should unify to defeat him at every stage. He shouldn't get to the general. We saw what happened in 2016. NO!

The likes of Nikki Haley wouldn't challenge Trump if they thought he would be able to get vengeance.
No Dem is campaigning against Biden, notice. Dems are never slavishly devoted, but they also know how to maintain alliance.
I am now pretty sure Trump is not going to be the nominee.

(4,002 posts)This Republican primary is going to devolve even worse. It's like watching a train crash in slow motion. The good thing is they'll eat their own and spend all their money in the primary fighting each other. Joe can save his money for the general election.
If Trump does fall and isn't the candidate the crazy faction of the House loses a ton of influence. MTG and Boebert and Gaetz and the rest could be out next election. I don't think the crazy base will even vote if Trump isn't the candidate.
I'm going to enjoy watching the disintegration as they fall apart then struggle to right their ship. I'm still trying to decide if they'll return to some semblance of sanity or if they'll completely splinter and the crazies break off completely.

(93,616 posts)But I just can't see Haley winning the nomination. Maybe if other candidates drop out and endorse her . But even then I'm not sure.
I think her biggest chance is with the most extremists splitting their votes among 2 or more candidates and she can get the rest.

His net favorability rating in the latest Quinnipiac University poll stands at minus-44 points among Republicans. An astounding 61% of Republican voters hold an unfavorable view of him.

She got a small bump in favorability and consideration after one debate. It will take a lot more movement in that direction for those numbers to translate into "I will vote for her over Trump or DeSantis".
