President Biden @POTUS 11h
Stopped by a D.C. public school to shake hands with some pretty impressive eighth graders on their first day.
Oh, my God, its really you! shouted a student at Eliot-Hine Middle School in Northeast Washington, where President Biden stopped by Monday to mark the new school year. There was so much squealing and excitement that one staffer marveled, This is like the Beatles.
Biden, accompanied by first lady Jill Biden, first visited the lunchroom where a big banner touted the schools valued traits of excellence, responsibility, integrity and communications. Then they dropped by an eighth-grade math class at the 300-student campus.
In the classroom, decorated with colorful posters that displayed math symbols and the order of operations, one student proclaimed loudly, Joe Biden! The president hugged one excited child and talked about whether she could someday become president.
He just started talking and giving them some inspiration, she said. He told everyone he had been bullied when he was younger because he was small and would stutter. He was very personable, Thomas added. Both the president and first lady shook every childs hand.

(29,949 posts)I worked with college kids who didnt know McCartney was a Beatle or even knew who Ringo was at all.
My boss wanted to have a party for the kids and said it would be cool to get Santana. I said my boss was showing his age and most of the kids wouldnt know Santana.
This was back in The Dave Mathews era. I bet even fewer kids would know it now.
Im out of loop now but arent even Beyoncé or Rhianna past the squeal stage?

(29,634 posts)I think it's still a fair analogy because they still show a lot of footage of Beatlemania, so most people over 40 would get it.

And Im old enough to remember the Beatles era in full! I totally get the comparison.

Just look at those young, smiling faces. Says it all!

(77,324 posts)This act of kindness, class, and grace shows what really good people they are and
very well might have changed some of those young people's lives. Joe has gone
through hurts and pain that would have crippled other people including me and has
taken "those hurts" into his being and now sees one of his jobs to make other people's
lives better.
Joe is the best President of my lifetime and Jill's drive to help in the education and the
well being of her fellow American's lives is amazing too.

(6,123 posts)Provide a positive role model to those students. We need a President who bothers to meet students who are not even old enough to vote, but will some day. I hope they remember the man who came to greet them personally and encourage them. tRump could never bother because he really did not care about them. They were useless to him.
As an aside, I am sick and tired of the notion that President Biden has dementia. As someone who provided care for my mom for three years + when she was living her final years with Alzheimers, I know a thing or two about dementia. Joe Biden couldnt do what he does every day and have dementia. The man had and mostly overcame a speech impediment stuttering. There are tiny remnants of it to this day, but that is not dementia. The people who are pushing that notion should be ashamed of themselves, but they are not.
Those of us who know dementia and recognize it need to speak up and push back on the notion that Mr. Biden has dementia. It is a disservice to him and to those who really do have dementia.
Criticize him for other things like policies if you must, but stop the false claim that he has dementia. I dare say if tRump and Pres. Biden were fully evaluated by medical experts, we know who would end up with a better report!

(2,123 posts)Your point about the remnants of Biden's speech impediment being conflated with supposed dementia needs to be discussed. People who have never had to struggle with that form of disability probably have no idea of the challenge it presents and the work that Joe Biden has put into dealing with it.
And of course, suggestions of dementia are meant to erode confidence in his leadership. And when the Right isn't actively pushing the "Biden is old and incompetent" narrative, they switch to fear-mongering with the "Biden is a dangerous communist/socialist who will tear down all the good social norms in our country" tactic.
Their target audience isn't saavy enough to see the disconnect between "Biden the doddering fool" versus "Biden the evil mastermind" rhetoric.
And speaking of disconnects-- this line in the article really resonated with me:
He told everyone he had been bullied when he was younger because he was small and would stutter. "
Biden was bullied as a child while Trump has spent his life as a bully. . . And Trump's wife took on bullying as her FLOTUS initiative. How that woman stood in front of actual people and tried to sell her "Be Best" schtick while being married to the Bully-in-Chief is a disconnect of galactic proportions.

(3,363 posts)I am in my 40s, on the autism spectrum and I also have a bit of a speech impediment as well as something called "stilted speech". It's so hard to deal with and I feel that President Biden has taken far more crap in the past few years for something out of his control that anyone deserves. MAGA = BULLIES. 😡😡😡😡😡

(6,123 posts)On the planet. Like most bullies, tRump is a big wuss on the inside. All bark but has to get others to bite. He taught his followers very well how to bully and mistreat others especially those with physical limitations. Woe be to those with visible or audible issues, because hell target those things, too. He is despicable.
