Delaware trooper suspended for allegedly beating 15-year-old who ding-dong ditched his house
A Delaware state trooper has been suspended for allegedly beating a 15-year-old boy to a pulp after the teen ding-dong ditched his home.
The teenager, named Jayden, suffered a broken orbital bone around his eye which will require surgery as well as a concussion and cuts and bruises after his parents say an innocent adolescent prank was blown way out of proportion.
-----------------
Jayden and three of his friends were playing ding-dong ditch ringing peoples doorbells and running away in Wilmington on Monday when they pushed the bell of a state trooper, according to this family.
About 45 minutes later, the trooper and his partner tracked down the kids and aggressively arrested the group of boys.
[Jayden] was roughed up on the ground while handcuffed, and he was given a blind haymaker punch by a state trooper while he was shining a flashlight into his eyes, Davis said.
The boys were cuffed and detained but none of them were charged with a crime.
The troopers were wearing their department-issued body cameras at the time and Delaware State Police are reviewing the footage, DSP told WPVI in a statement.

Georgia man arrested after 'Ding Dong Ditch' prank ends in violence: police
William Raymond Cole was charged with cruelty to children and aggravated assault
A Georgia suspect has been arrested after allegedly choking a teenager who had "Ding Dong Ditched" his house, police say.
William Raymond Cole, 49, was charged with felony aggravated assault and first-degree felony cruelty to children on Monday. Tybee Island Police Department explained that their officers were called to investigate an aggravated assault earlier on Sunday.
Authorities discovered that a group of teenagers had knocked repeatedly on Cole's door as a prank. Cole then allegedly angrily pursued the teenagers, even attempting to strike them with his car.

"Cole then allegedly chased them away from the residence, before getting into his vehicle to continue the pursuit," Tybee Island Police Department explained in a press release. "After catching up to the kids, Cole allegedly attempted to strike them with the vehicle."
The suspect then allegedly got out of his car to pursue them on foot again, before choking one of the teens.
"After catching one of the teens, Cole is further alleged to have choked them until a witness intervened," police added. "At that time, Cole fled the scene."

Don't you remember "Highway Patrol"? "Dragnet"? "Adam 12"? Many others. The TV and movie studios have been propagandizing the police for over a half century.

(11,780 posts)There was a little backlash in the late 20th century following the 60s-70s counter culture. Not on TV but elsewhere in society. Same for the army following Vietnam.

(8,561 posts)The cops where I live work enormous amounts of overtime. I can't imagine anyone flying into such a blind rage unless the doorbell ringing had woken them from much-needed sleep.
That said, they deserve everything that's coming to them, legally and professionally.

(13,282 posts)about 6 months ago at 9pm, hubby was in shower so when they banged on door not ringing banging scared the crap out of me. I looked out and saw no one, my dog barked a lot so hopefully made them run faster.
My camera didn't pick them up as I don't have one on door just front of house, they must have saw it and made sure not to be in front of it.
My neighbor 3 doors down with a different view of court caught the 5 teens running down our court.

(82,849 posts)And "roughed up on the ground while handcuffed." It took the trooper and his partner 45 minutes to track down the kids they thought rang his doorbell, so it wasn't a "heat of the moment thing." It's more like a "torture some kids" thing. And frankly, I don't much care what the kids did; NOBODY deserves to be sucker-punched while a bright flashlight is blinding him, NOBODY deserves to be handcuffed and tortured; NOBODY should be judged, juried, and punished by an out-of-control maniac wearing a uniform and a badge. The trooper and his partner need to go to prison for many years.

(4,002 posts)Honestly the fact they're cops was good here... they had their body cameras on. A couple of real geniuses.
The sad thing is there are plenty of jerks out there that feel they have to resort to violence to solve everything. From the guy who shot at a car in his driveway to the two idiots who pulled a gun on an Amazon driver. (That one was racial I think). It's just crazy. The climate these days is anger and resentment thanks to TFG and his cult.
I never did doorbell ditch growing up. I did TP a few houses though around 13 years old. I guess I wasn't a hardened criminal who deserved to be beaten "to a pulp" like this kid. I hope the kid sues the guy right out of his house. As for the soon to be ex-Trooper I think felony charges are clearly in order.

(20,595 posts)Thought it was called something altogether different, which Ill leave at that for obvious reasons. Flashlight tag was also popular on summer nights. Either are an invitation to get shot in todays day and age.

(4,002 posts)I remember that in the late 70s. It was so different then growing up. The only drills we had in school were Tornado drills. Now it's active shooter drills. Crazy.
