just now… the shooting at Guaranteed Rate Field during a #WhiteSox game was indeed an accidental discharge by one of the women “grazed” by the bullet. She reportedly snuck the gun in past metal detectors hiding it in the folds of her belly fat.

If they thought it was a belt buckle or piercing or whatever, she should have been asked to remove it before entry.

Granted, the whole thing could be security theater. Otherwise, if the stadium is serious about security and preventing guns from entering the facility, then a security overhaul is necessary.

The human body looks, to most of the EM spectrum, like a bag of salt water or similar weak conductor. There's a reason why the folks you see with metal detectors at a saltwater beach either (a) avoid wet sand and surf, or (b) have a metal detector specifically made for dealing with saltwater.

Unless they feel like shaking down every spectator who has an implanted medical device, then they probably are not using a metal detector that is going to flag pacemakers, dental fillings, or other internal metal objects.

While some people with medical implants will take appropriate paperwork to TSA checkpoints, it's generally not expected at sports stadiums.

Lots of people have metal in their bodies for lots of reasons.

4. Just an NRA member cleaning a gun in between,...

.... innings at a crowded baseball game. They thought the gun was empty of bullets but realized they made a boo-boo when the gun accidentally went off - firing bullets into the crowded stands.

A learning opportunity here,... it is not advisable to dismantle your hand gun so it can be cleaned,... especially if you are at a crowded baseball park where people could easily be injured.
