President Joe Biden is offering one of his White House challengers hundreds of millions of dollars to spend in his state. The only problem: that opponent is refusing to take it.
The Inflation Reduction Act makes Florida eligible for some $350 million in energy efficiency incentives. But Gov. Ron DeSantis has rejected the funding and other measures, creating the most prominent blockade by any Republican governor against Bidens economic agenda.
And theres nothing the White House can do besides hope he changes his mind.
The rejection has the potential to create significant ripple effects, politically and economically, in the coming months. As the president and his Cabinet members go around the country boasting about the IRA, rebates for energy-efficient purchases the majority of the funding that DeSantis has refused have played a particularly prominent role. Thats not just because they underpin the administrations climate agenda but because they provide direct rebates to consumers.

(4,637 posts)as another killer hurricane ravages the state, they will have no access to free money for more energy efficient equipment that could save them money and trouble in the future.
And yet they re-elected this clown-thug.

(82,849 posts)How could Democrats possibly make an issue out of DeSantis' feckless governance, depriving Floridians of assistance and costing each of them hundreds of dollars a year? I mean, "There's money available to help you, but Gov. DeSantis won't let you have it" is just soooooo hard to comprehend!

(35,135 posts)I heard he's planning a speech about Biden's response to the coming hurricane AND the fires in Hawaii? He's going to overplay his hand and it's not going to over well. You can't play games with peoples' lives like this.

(4,083 posts)makes me want to express a snarl. The dear leader starts by his team is so last leader, but his taking advantage of the best emergency management group in the world to display his prowess is sickening.
The machinery to respond to hurricanes has been developing since Andrew when Craig Fugate put in the protocols that all states, particularly in hurricane prone ones, use to bail each other out.
While the storm is a serious assault on life and infrastructure, Floridians have played this game for years.
Ian caught many of those ride it out types, in a powerful surge. But Ian struck a large population.
Nonetheless, the emergency response was palpable. DeSantis didn't know then, how powerful the system was ready to make the hurricane rescue function.
He knows now and is riding it to show how effective he is in managing rote.
He is developing a skill set that makes him even scarier.
Floridians, as a rule, have no idea what I described. Many just want to be led to the land of their own world view. Little do they know the cost of following the fecklessness of our governor.

Never waste a good crisis.

(4,083 posts)Three weeks and big fanfare. The bridge really needs a permanent repair that will take some time. Yet the wealthies have access to attend to the devastation. I've heard that food trucks are now the restaurants and some homes are being refurbished. Have not visited and would love to hear how well the island is recovering.
It is still a beautiful nature spot, I'm sure, but dropping a dime for a small population with assets to mend, sure attends to a certain mentality.
He is going to school.

(3,523 posts)in the cover of night with no fanfare. Then hell scowl about anything the Feds do. Diss Biden publicly to show his credentials to base. Hell fake the whole thing. Florida NEEDS the funds. Everyone knows it. Biden takes the high road though. He aint getting in a pissing match to screw over Americans even those that vote against him.
