"Selfish women backed Obama" LTTE from a Republican sore loser in today's paper!

Published: Thursday, November 15, 2012

By Alice Lehr, North Branford

"It is hard for me to believe that the majority of women voters picked Barack Obama for president on the issue of “you are not going to tell me what to do with my body”.

Are these women so selfish and egotistic to think this issue is more important than our economy, military, jobs, education for children and foreign policy? Where were they educated?

It is a sad state of affairs when women have no regard for the future of this great country.

They have set women back tremendously."

I don't know where to begin with this incredibly STUPID letter! I tried to think of a response but I couldn't even start to figure out what she was REALLY saying. My guess is that it was a lame-assed attack on women supporting contraception coverage and abortion rights, but I gave up because it made my head hurt...

into women's vaginas for no reason other than to humiliate and shame them, women might have considered other issues as well, issues such as universal access to affordable health care, issues such as human rights for all americans, issues such as ending the endless wars started by the prior Republican administration, issues such as equitable tax policies and income inequality, issues such as climate change, issues such as affordable education....

wait a second, the women I know considered all of those issues. They were and are outraged by Republican intrusion into their genitalia - who wouldn't be? - but all the women I know are more than capable of considering many issues and making informed decisions based on available data and critical thinking skills.

The sore loser republicans can all go fuck off.

understand, with my tiny pea-brain which of course I have simply because I am female, what this Alice Lehr person has written, who, although she, too, is probably a woman and speaks for me, and...as such...uh, what was the question?

Now to be serious. Yesterday I learned--from Romney himself--that we voted for Obama because he's giving college-age women free contraceptives (insinuating, in my mind at least, that we women are sluts). And today we females are selfish and egotistical as well?

So this is how the Rs will win back female voters?

the "People's Republic of New Haven," which is rife with liberals and progressives. They feel embittered and powerless. They HATE Yale and what it hath wrought upon the city. They have no place to go with their bitterness, hatred and racism but to the Register, which is a RW paper. The Register has a "Sound off" column every day and there are the same people yelling about "illegals" and "minorities" and "Democrats." I have actually started to combat their lies and hatred by calling in and leaving pro-Dem, pro-liberal statements in the Sound Off phone line (I use a nom de plume, of course).

That column is pretty funny, actually. There is one woman who regularly turns a simple question into a diatribe against Democrats! It's amazing to read her contortions!

It is hard for me to believe that a woman has no idea that being able to have the basic right to make medical decisions regarding their own bodies is also an economic choice. The republicans have made it very clear that they also want to ban birth control methods. I for one am glad that I did not have to produce a child everytime I had sex with my husband. After 20 years of marriage, I would be on at least my 20th kid, I kid you not. How egotistical of me to think 20 kids are more than we can handle financially. How positively fucking selfish of me to think that just because a womans body can produce a baby every 9 months [and 6 weeks] she should.

I can not imagine the economic impact it would have on the country when women are forced to be nothing more than baby making machines. To give you a clue: My mother had 3 daughters, if you combine our fertile years we would have produced at least 50 babies. Now out of those 50 babies, let's just say for arguements sake 25 of them were female. Those 25 females produced 20 children each. That equals 500. 250 of those are female and they have 20 kids.... How many generations would it take before farmland was wiped out? people do have to live somewhere. How would the corporations be able to handle the disposal of just the human waste? How long do you think it would be before epidemics of cholera, flu, and other diseases were the norm? Just for shits and giggles why don't you compare the economic wealth of country that have access to contraceptive measures to those who don't.

So Alice, in closing I would like to add; our choice did not set women back tremendously. It empowers us to participate in our country as full citizens. It empowers OUR country by not overproducing. It is your attitude that sets women back, back to they days when women were not allowed to own property, sign a legal contract, and VOTE.

If you make any other response, remember you're not trying to convince her that she's wrong. That's a fool's errand, especially in the space available to a LTTE.

Your audience is everyone else, because the bigotry underlying that letter cannot go without some response. It's not acceptable just because it comes from a woman.

I much prefer Obama's plan than more of this deregulation free market crap we've had forced on us over and over again. It failed! It always fails! It's just a bad theory and we need to move on from this.

So IMO Obama wins on the economy as well as on women's rights issues, and on a multitude of other issues.

We can be both selfish AND self-less. We're intelligent enough to do that regardless of our education level. Its a sad state of affairs that Republican women have insufficient regard for their fellow females that they'd fall for propaganda about why Democratic women selected Obama.

Please try dear Alice to get out of the right wing echo chamber and meet some of us.

Where to begin with this woman's warped view of women's rights? And really, how sad she believes women should sacrifice their personal freedom and well-being 'for the future of the country'. I imagine if she's married, she has sacrificed her own needs for those of her husband.

If not wanting to be subservient is selfish, then so be it. I'm proud to be a selfish woman.
