finally, Donald Trump is being held accountable for his actions, and watching it all unfold is satisfying as fuck.

but let’s not forget that it almost didn’t happen.

Merrick Garland had to be dragged kicking and screaming into investigating Trump’s crimes. he really didn’t want to do it. he didn’t want to appear “partisan.” it wasn’t until the January 6th Committee laid out their compelling case for prosecuting Trump that Garland was virtually embarrassed into appointing Jack Smith.

Tiedrich doesn't single out Garland. He traces a long history of US behavior of sweeping it under the rug. Slavery, Nixon, Bush: John Yoo, Bush, Abu Ghraib, black rendition sites. Obama saying let's put torture in Iraq behind us (illustrated with Abu Ghraib). Trump had good reason to believe he would get away with his crimes, so his rage is understandable, even if unforgivable. The US has had a long, consistent record of "not before the children", and ignoring horrid crimes.

Every time we ignore the crimes of the Right, they come back worse and worse.

As I said, Tiedrich does not single out an individual. He points out a long history.

I would add the Bundys. First Nevada (pointing guns at Federal agents), then Malheur (violent takeover of Federal property, with one death), then flash-mobbing a damn HOSPITAL. Maybe he'll finally face consequences. People are serving time for things like trying to vote (with a State-issued voter's card) and smoking a plant, but pull guns on LEO? They get away with it.
