Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday spoke out against rising threats against election workers as the Department of Justice's specialized task force announced a ninth conviction as it seeks to combat the problem.
Driving the news: The DOJ announced Thursday that two men in two separate cases in Arizona and Georgia had pleaded guilty to threatening election officials in Arizona and Georgia in separate cases, brought by the the Justice Department's Election Threats Task Force which has now brought charges in 14 cases.
These include a 2.5-year prison sentence handed down on Monday to an Iowa man, who left voicemails threatening to "hang" officials including former Attorney General of Arizona Mark Brnovich.
On Thursday, an Ohio man pleaded guilty to sending a death threat to an election official with the Arizona secretary of state's office and a Texas man pleaded guilty to "posting a message online threatening several Georgia public officials following the 2020 election," per the DOJ.

(25,392 posts)1. Violence against officials and individuals is a crime. Many are being sentenced.
2. Death threats are crimes. Prosecuting them is not intimidation. Its deterrence, and a just reward. LOCK THEM ALL UP. They dont even conceal their crimes. They boast of them. (Same as #1 above)
3. Conspirators who planned to overthrow democracy and the constitution have been and will be indicted. These white collars are running out of competent lawyers and cash, especially since DOJ has been attacking money launderers and dark money (I notice such things).
They tried to conceal their crimes, but the operation was too big, like their egos.
Regardless of the outcomes, spending a lifetime in court, for these privileged Little Lord Fauntleroy's, is like time in prison.
Because they have never been held accountable for anything.

(10,252 posts)for prioritizing domestic terrorists, who threaten our election officials and workers. Upon conviction, continue to advocated for prison sentences as a deterrent to all the sore losers, who contemplate issuing threats.

(13,292 posts)Make it hurt, Merrick! And publicize the hell out of each conviction to deter others from pulling the same shit. Let them lose their jobs, their homes, their cars. Some of the J6 convicts even lost their families, as their wives and kids were tired of putting up with their Trump-loving husband/father. I wonder if these assholes are working with the GQP to make it more difficult to vote? Follow the money.

(2,973 posts)I can imagine the effect would actually more greatly affect older GOP turnout numbers as so many Dems would early vote as they have been doing more and more in elections since 2020.
